Default Trolling motor on a pontoon boat

does anyone have insight on mounting a trolling motor (specifically a Minn Kota with a quick release mount) on the bow of a pontoon? i am trying to figure out where to place the battery and how to run the wires.the bow door does not have a cut out.
TIA

My 'toon has a lip around the deck. To avoid warping the mounting base, I added a couple washers under the bolt holes.

Sorry, can't figure out how to upload the image. Keep looking though, there may be better options for you.

I had pretty much this exact setup years ago. You will need a door with a cut out or you can leave the door open.

As far as batteries go, I had mine in a cooler on wheels with an outlet built in the side so I could take it in and off the boat. My Minn Kota was a 36 volt so it required 3 batteries. I didn’t like the added weight of three batteries in the front when cruising so would only roll it on when fishing. If you want to permanently mount them, under the front seat is the best place. Make sure you are using the proper gauge wire and fuse as your Minn Kota draws a LOT of amperage..

See pics below….

Good luck!

Dan,

The things you do and the way you do them is always impressive to me!

This is just another example. Right down to a spare fuse taped to the top of the cooler.

Thanks for sharing!

Default pontoon trolling motor

looking for more advice on mounting my trolling motor on the pontoon boat. looking under there front deck, i can see that there is a piece of sheet metal that is underneath with about a half inch space between it and the undersurface.
my question is how can i get the mounting bolts and nuts set. do i just go through it all or is there another way.

If you don’t have a way to get some kind of shim between the sheet metal and the undersurface, drill four holes large enough for washers where your mounting holes would be. Put your washers and nuts on, then seal holes up completely with a quality silicone sealant or seal on a scab piece of aluminum sheeting over the holes and seal up completely….
