Anyone know what's happening there? They had a sign out front that said they were closed until 1/19. Now the sign just says "thank you". Are they closed temporarily? Hopefully not for good. I loved their brussels sprout appetizer.

Last week, I did hear they were closing. Little off season traffic. May become seasonal spot

I went there once this summer, wasn't impressed with the food or the atmosphere. Hopefully they make it, it's been a tough spot to do business for a long time now.

The owner of Paugus Bay Pub, Kevin Hayhurst, has also had discussions with the city of Laconia about purchasing the downtown parking garage to create a domed sports facility.

Their sign used to advertise "Sunday Brunch", then it had "See you Thursday". Now it's blank and looks like it isn't open. Anyone know what's up?

It seems like everyone keeps just putting Lipstick on a Pig so to speak, the place needs to be gutted and redesigned. I think people walk in and say oh the same old same old from the 80s/90s with paint. At least that is what I did everytime something new has tried to open there, so i feel like they are already at a dissadvantage.
It is at a great spot on the road for location wise, it should be able to do a great business there, but the food has to be able to compete with what is around as well.

I agree with AC. Get rid of the straggly Christmas lights along the roof edge in front all year round. The dumpster in front is unsightly and uninviting. Somehow put bathrooms on the main floor. Redo the whole entrance area, so much wasted unused space. Get rid of the side orders being served in the little white bowls. There are enough pubs around, turn it back into a destination restaurant with food to match.
It was a special night to go there in the 80s. I hope someone with true talent and know-how can fulfill its potential. It could be another Canoe or Camp with the right person at the helm. Sent from my iPhone using Winnipesaukee Forum mobile app |

IMHO, its not going to matter what you do to the building... gutting it and redoing it would obviously be an improvement. A high end restaurant would be nice too! However, the biggest issue is parking! You have 200 seat restaurant with parking for at best 75-80! It doesn't matter what you put there... it will struggle because of lack of parking.

Or you create a restaurant that only supports the number of spaces you have. Keep it Simple
