We just moved here and I register all my vehicles, kinda a vintage car nut, so I have a lot... Was wondering if somebody could recommend an inspection place in the Meredith area.. Somebody that might be a bit "easy" on old cars ![]() Thanks Much!!! -Bill Oh, and maybe a Motorcycle... |

The New Hampshire state inspection stations that were "easy" and there really was at least one that I thought was too easy have all become "former-no longer able to do inspections" because the state removed all their inspection stickers plus their state sign for inspections done here.
It costs about $50 and the #1 item is brakes. After doing a flashlight brake look-see it is usual for a front wheel to be removed to look at the brakes. You are not in Florida, anymore! New Hampshire does serious car inspections, one time every year for every NH car and twice per year for NH big trucks.

Cost varies statewide. A appointment is required for each vehicle. I use German Motors in Gilford.

Antique vehicle 40 or more model years old = inspection required every other year. Except, "any motor vehicle with a model year 60 years or older shall be exempt from [inspection] as long as the motor vehicle is equipped as it was manufactured or in accordance with the motor vehicle’s original equipment specifications, or exceeds manufacturer’s design intent." |

Hi All, Thanks for replying..
I have 4 vehicle's over 40 years, but I didn't want to put antique plates on them as with antique plates you are limited to how much you drive them. With regular plates looks like inspection every year. I have some appointments, we'll see how it goes.. |

Here is the process I learned years ago to avoid repairs that are not needed.
Hold onto registration. Keep registration in your hand. Pay for an inspection. Just state that you wish to see if vehicle will pass inspection. If "problems" are found - get a second opinion. This way you do not get any "marks" on the registration nor a rejection sticker. If all is fine. Then just provide -hand over - the registration and pay. Done. Forgot to add.
Inspection place/shop will state that vehicle willl have to be hooked up to computter. If there are no Checck Engine lights on - state to shop/mechanic - just skip that part. Just offer pay for the mechanical part. If the shop/mechanic states that they will not do this - find another shop. If there is a Check Engine light on - well . .. get that fixed first at any shop/mechanic. Ahead of time. The bottom line is to have the vehicle in passing inspection ahead of time. So as not to be ripped off at inspection time. For unnecessary "repairs". |

RSA 266:59-b IV, vehicles less than 20 years old must have an On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) test as part of the inspection process.

If I am following this correctly, I see that older cars are inspected less?
Should not older cars be inspected more? My daily driver is a 1992 Lexus SC400 that I bought new. In California, they are only concerned about smog and inspected every two years. You can have a car with broken lights, no brakes and poor tires...It'll pass unless it blows smoke.

Antique vehicles can go every 2 years, but they need to have an antique registration. |
