Ok, all, our "family dress-up night" has become "Hawaiian Shirt Night."
Suggestions on restaurants in the Lakes Region that might suit the theme? Most interested in something new(ish) to us, which means outside the Moultonborough standards like Bob House, Lee Wah, Buckey's... Thoughts?! Sent from my SM-S911U using Tapatalk |

Definitely family-friendly. While I've not seen a lot of kids in the main bar/table area there, that space is adjacent to their Pool, (members only), and there are always families and kids around the pool. I've never witnessed any bad language or inappropriate behavior when I've been there. My daughter also worked there as a server in the summer during her 4 years in college and she never had an issue with any patrons.

Akwa is a great suggestion! Get the lobster roll, it’s awesome! Also their wings are fantastic!
Yes very family friendly! Dan

Bar Salida in Weirs. Small dinner menu. Apps were very good. It’s all outdoor seating. Relaxed atmosphere. We enjoy it.

We hit up Akwa Marina for our Hawaiian Shirt Night tonight, and it was perfect—location, food, and service were all spot on for the family's theme.
Foods ordered: Thai chili wings, coconut shrimps, CBC ranch salad, fish and chips basket, chicken tender basket, and fried clam basket. The only thing that wasn't a 10 was my daughter's chicken tenders, but that was more of an issue with style than quality. Thanks for the recommendation, all! Sent from my SM-S911U using Tapatalk |

Quick addition, since it kinda ties into some conversations that have happened here: my daughter asked why our waiter thanked us when we sent back two Shirley Temples (that were made with soda water instead of Sprite—weird), and I suggested it was because we were kind about it.
Well, later, we asked about his accent and he told us about how he's here from Croatia on a study-abroad program and that there are some others in the area as well but not as many as there once were. He'll be finishing here in a few weeks and then traveling the US for a couple weeks after that before heading home to start school in October. As part of the conversation, he explained how much he enjoyed working here because—and this surprised us a tad—"Americans are patient." I'm not sure if that's a reflection of where he works—it's probably more difficult to be a jerkface at a nice lakeside place like Akwa?!—or a reality that maybe we don't always consider, but it was nice to hear. Maybe a greater percentage of patrons have figured out that being rude to the staff can result in even less staff.
Patience and kindness go a long way. |
