FLL, I'm in the Professional Audio business and information of potentially promising research on a new tinnitus treatment being pioneered in at the University of Auckland came across my desk. I've had tinnitus for approximately 10 years now. It may have gotten worse but so slowly it's hard to tell. I liken it to the sound of a fluorescent light ballast; high pitched buzzing. I can definitely understand how it can drive someone to distraction. During my annual hearing test this year, in the sound booth, with headphones on, I had a digital controller to allow me to change high-pitched signals to find a frequency that almost totally canceled the noise. It was quite amazing. Bose, of course, has used this tech for years, and Cadilac also. The hearing aids required are costly but if I reach a point of complete distraction I think that may be the way to go.

That's an excellent write-up on the affliction tinnitus coming from Odense University Hospital, "the largest and most specialized hospital in southern Denmark."

It mentions cases referred from an otorhinolaryngolost ...... a specialist ..... www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otorhinolaryngology ..... someone for me to seek out.

This is just my opinion but it's probably the very loud noises like a pounding hammer or gunfire that has a percussion effect within one's ears that lead to tinnitus later on in life as opposed to loud motorboats out some distance on the lake.

In a new study with data from 3.5 million Danes, researchers from the Department of Clinical Research...found that the more traffic noise Danish residents are exposed to in their homes, the more they are at risk of developing tinnitus.

Data from 3.5 million Danes is more realistic than data from hundreds of clinical studies numbering 1000 rats each! IMHO.

I can't trace my tinnitus to any study. It started in childhood with tiny high-pitched tones, which convinced me I was being contacted by aliens. Aliens was especially convincing, as I'd received a Germanium-powered radio, which I listened to after lights-out.

However, it could have been made worse when M-80s came on the scene in 1958!

For some reason, my tinnitus is especially loudest after dinner.

Thank you for the opinion. I have had it in my left ear since a motorcycle accident about 15 years ago. I landed hard on the left side, my head banged on the ground. No helmet.

It is funny that most of the time I can ignore it and forget about it. Every time I read about it on this site I think about it and notice it is still there.

So, my tinnitus problem started on about December 1, 2020, and I have read there may be a connection between the Corona virus vaccination and tinnitus.

I got a total of five vaccinations, all Pfizer, all at CVS-Pharmacy, Plymouth NH with first vaccination in October, 2020 and the last one in October, 2022.

It definitely seems like a go-to, cause and effect medical problem, chronic tinnitus, so is there a link between the Pfizer Corona virus vaccination and my terrible tinnitus?

Very unlikely. First, tinnitus is very common for men of your age. So you should not think it's a surprise or something unusual, you just have a worse case than most. Second, the vaccine has been given to hundreds of millions of people with no known upticks in tinnitus or any other ailment.

In medical research, hundreds of questions are raised every day, kind of the same way you've said "I have read there may be a connection...". If you start to act on these questions before you have any real evidence from respected researchers, you will stop taking all medicine, then stop eating beef, then stop eating nonorganic vegetables, then fruit, then white bread, then stop going out in the sunshine...

Thanks for posting this report on tinnitus as caused by the Covid vaccination from NBC health news which was just published today on Sunday, April 23, 2023.

I don't really want to get into it too much on a public forum like this, but at age-71, and very healthy except for tinnitus, and able to swim 20 laps in a 25-meter indoor 80-degree pool, or 200-yards in an outdoor 65-degree lake, I just refer to it as my terrible tinnitus.

And, swimming in that cold 65-degree water with a neoprene vest and an O'Neill thermo top, last year, seemed to freeze the tinnitus away for the rest of the day, until the following morning at 4-am.

The article notes 16,000 have reported tinnitus after receiving the covid vaccine. That's a lot of people and I agree that looks like a big number.

But in the US, 230,000,000 people took the vaccine, and the incidence of tinnitus in the US is about 10% (or maybe more)--that's 23,000,000 have tinnitus in total. So among the people who took the vaccine, we would expect 1,000,000 new cases per year of tinnitus before any vaccines are given. (Googled round numbers here)

Now we want to know if vaccines might lead to an increase of the 1 million new cases that would have occurred anyway. We see that 16,000 have complained, we remember that 16,000 is 1.6% of 1,000,000, and all of a sudden, it's a very small number. Aren't more people than that always complaining about something?

I look forward to research showing whether the concern is warranted, but we can all find about a hundred things that we do every day--coffee, beef, chicken, eggs, beer, chocolate, white bread, computer screens, sitting...--that are a lot scarier than this.
