Stained fiberglass shower ?

I have a stained fiberglass shower, as a result of hard water.

I've corrected the hard water by replacing my whole-house filtration system as it had failed, 18 year old Culligan system.

I digress.... Getting back to shower staining, it appears to have a rust colored
stain as a result of water iron content. Staining is not really bad but definitely discolored.

What would be a good cleaner to bring back original 'white' brilliance ?
Could I used a fiberglass 'boat' restorer cleaner for this purpose ?
FYI, I have used 'Gel-Gloss' to clean in the past, but the product leaves and unpleasant odor, and does not really remove staining ?

Suggestions ?

In a previous home we also had a terrible iron issue. Used Tang to clean it

Tang? As in the powdered drink mix (that astronauts drink)?

I cleaned a scuzzy shower with vinegar and blue Dawn. Heat a cup of white vinegar until it’s hot, put in a glass spray bottle, add a cup of blue Dawn, and shake well. Liberally apply to the shower, and let sit for 30 minutes to an hour, then scrub clean. This tip is all over Porn for Women, otherwise known as Pinterest.

I've also had good luck with the vinegar and Dawn spray. Smells a little funky but way better than chemicals.

Yep…I was going to suggest the blue Dawn and white vinegar treatment. It’s great on stains…haven’t tried it on rust. Hope it works.

A P.S. to my last post: camp guy sent me a PM suggesting adding some Clorox to the Dawn/white vinegar mix when you have rust stains. Try it!

I like the idea of White Vinegar and Dawn combination, but as I have a septic system, would not want to add Clorox bleach in any quantities.

Bleach kills bacteria, and that what makes septic systems do its thing.
Just a thought........

You should never mix bleach and vinegar. Produces chlorine gas.

If the CLR doesn’t work you could try Bartenders friend. I know guys have used that on the on boat hulls to remove years of the orange/brown staining from sitting in lake. Mix it up to paste like like and smear it on a sponge. Available at Walmart…..

1. If it is fiberglass, try "FSR", sold at marine supply locations. It takes the rusty stain on a boats waterline off in seconds, and then you just wash it away.

2. Another product is Whink, sold at most home improvement stores. It is acidic, but chemically bleaches iron stains in seconds.

Both are amazing with iron stains. However, neither will tackle calcium build up, for which I have never found a magic bullet.

Iron Out comes in either a spray or powder.

Can be found at most places and in at least my experience (when we also had a failing water softener) took care of the stains in short order. Especially designed for Iron stains and works fast. If the stains are on the bottom - cover drain fill with water a few inches and add powder - let sit for 15-30 minutes... If not and on the walls use the spray.

Would be surprised if you did not see immediate results - no scrubbing needed.

If you don't have any luck with the over the counter stuff, reach out to Crack of Dawn. They do crack repairs and refinishing. Maybe they have a suggestion or could resurface it. They just did a crack repair on the island for us.
