Several years ago my friend's kids gave him a type V PFD and asked him to wear it whenever he was in the boat alone. That inspired me to do the same. I have a yoke type like MP wear, and I wear it all the time. Other adult family members wear the belly bags. Makes it easier to tell the little ones to wear a PFD. If he fishes alone, it should also have a whistle.
~$135 at Bass Pro/Cabella's. Several good brands.
