The reward money alone covers the boat and deductable.

Rich people and poor people self-insure.

Let this thread be a lesson to everyone, if it has a motor, then it should have its' own insurance policy.

An uninsured loss can be very expensive, and take months and years to unfold, but if you got an insurance policy, everything gets done by your friendly insurance coverage.

If it does not have a motor, which could be a row boat, small sailboat, kayak, canoe, stand up paddle board, or foam noodle (ha ha ha), then it gets covered by standard home owner's insurance policy.

When I read the article he didn't appear to be a wealthy individual at all. He had to sell his motorcycle and did plowing for a winter in order to pay for the 25 year old boat.

I hope he is able to finish getting it ready for next summer!

And speaking of Meredith Bay- our boat, loaded to the gills for a one week island rental, almost ended up on the bottom of that Bay after launching. Yup, I forgot to put in the plug. I informed a boat pulling up to the dock and we quickly dashed out to install the plug. Lots of water in the engine compartment but we were OK.

I make mistakes, don't we all?
