I'm looking for a mechanic that can service my Volvo Penta stern drive. I'm trying to find a guy that can pull my drive and replace seals and repaint. Someone that can come to my marina and pull the drive and work on it over the winter. Any leads?
Thanks, Dick |

That's a harsh statement in response to the silence your received for making a rather strange request. I'm not sure of any of your details, but it looks like you have a boat at a marina for storage, and you want a mechanic from another marina to come to that marina and remove your stern drive, take it someplace else for service, and then, presumably, return it in the spring.
Am I the only one who sees this as rather strange.?? |

I found it strange that this was not put in the boat repair section...

The problem with this request is that a mechanic will have to go into the storage location to pull the drive... Likely an issue with the Host Marina....
My suggestion would be to call all Marina's and get a price for the work, and then plan to store your boat with the Marina that has the best price for the scope of work you want....

I decided to pull the drive off myself and looking for a mechanic that can service it over the winter. I'm trying to avoid the spring rush. It's an 02 with about 500 hrs on it. Not sure of the service history on the drive, I bought the boat used in 14 with about 300 hrs on it. It has been repainted before. The drive oil is a little milky. I replaced the 3 o-rings last spring and thought it fixed it, but noticed it again after I winterized it. So, looking for a leak test, seal replace as needed, along with an overall service and replace of anything else found. I'd like to also take the time to have someone who knows what they're doing to sand and paint. Thanks! Dick |
