Ragged Island

We were out all day today and poking around found a little beach area on Ragged I.
I approached at a 90 degree angle straight into the beach but did an abrupt reverse when it got shallow with abundant rocks...there were a few boats at the small beaches.
My question is: is this a private area (noticed swim floats at one of the beaches)?
If not private, is there a trick to getting close to the beaches without damage?

The island is owned by the Lakes Region Conservation Trust and is open to the public. You cannot however "beach" your boat anywhere on the island. They have docks at the southern end you can use to access the island and the walking trails. You can anchor off the island and the western side is best but as you say it is quite ROCKY! Ragged is a beautiful preserved island and before owning on the lake, I spent many afternoons there!!

I like the eastern side, between the island and mainland, better as it's more sheltered and tropical, but to get into that beach you gotta be really careful. I've gently floated in, but at some point it's best to jump ship and walk 'er in (and out). Once in, though, the sand is wonderful and, midweek, you'll be (usually) alone.

The key to getting into the western beach area is to go when there's about a foot more water in the lake.

There is no Mainland. Ragged is surrounded by islands.

Being an island I would thinks it is surrounded by water... not islands

I believe thinking was referring to the water between the island and the mainland

I think what Sik meant is there is no "mainland"...Cow island on east, Long Island on Northwest, Sandy island to the southwest and Little Bear to the North.

Right! I guess I always think of mainland because Cow and Little Bear are so big. Thanks for the correction.

That side is very tricky even with good water levels!
