I am looking to buy a dock box for a club/semi public dock. Any advice on material, places to buy, do's and dont's would be greatly appreciated. Probably looking for 4ft+ in length, mostly to hold canvass (mooring cover / cockpit bimini & isinglass )
Thanks in advance for your wisdom! |

I was looking for a similar item several years ago and was put off by prices of 'legitimate' dock boxes. I tried a few alternatives before I found a work box on wheels at Lowes. It's about 2' x 4'. Cover latches and can be locked with a pad lock. I simply use a few wood screws through the bottom and screw it right into the wood dock. I keep canvas and other items. Has been completely weather proof. At the end of the season, I remove the screws holding it to the dock and wheel it back to the SUV for the trip home. Cost was about $80. Can be found in tool section.

SAMs club sells one that comes in two different sizes. It's very inexpensive less than $100.00 and it's not bad for the price. I bought one this year for my deck to keep chair cushions from getting wet. So far it has worked out well. Here is the link to it from their web site... http://www.samsclub.com/sams/150-gal...prod8340178.ip Dan

I just purchased one of the grey looking Lifetime deck boxes, they had them at Lowes.
Work well for the price! http://www.lowes.com/pd/LIFETIME-PRO...ck-Box/3169925 A few of us on our dock are using these. It's not officially a 'dock box', but for $148 it looks good, is fairly dry (no water getting in mine) and can be locked to keep the honest people out.

These look great. If the club allows it I think this one will be the one for me. |
