Cool, I've never seen any pictures of the deone of the debris of the Weirs Cafe and the old "Mount" being removed after the fire. Here's one showing seaplanes with the fabric burned off the wings and fuelage following the fire.

And just for fun, here's a nice view of the old "Mount" taken from one of the seaplanes that was based at the Weirs. Judging from the wing strut in the edge of the picture, it was the "Staggerwing" Beechcraft. The Mount went up on the ways in Center Harbor for a big rebuild in I think 1937-8 over the winter, and there was a bit of a celebration when it arrived back at the Weirs, so that's probably when the picture was taken. Maybe Jim Irwin in the speedboat.

Great stuff thank you all for posting. I see Senter Cove Guy started this thread in 2004-wow.

I like seeing pictures I've never seen before of anything on the lake and the aerials lend a whole new perspective to the Mount.

As to the paddle wheels mentioned I found both of them. One is upright in the water column like a donut on edge and cut in half by explosives while the 2nd lies on its side some distance away-it's a mess but still very interesting.

Without a doubt they are some of the most interesting artifacts I've ever found. Once I dove it and saw it up close it's a wonder my side scan sonar towfish didn't collide with it because it stands so high in the water column. Sheer luck that I passed to the side of it.

Here's a picture of the Old Mount Washington and the Lady of the Lake at Center Harbor. Note the extensive woodpiles, ready to fuel the steam engines.
Picture is from the Kilburn Brothers stereoview #2059.

I would say that this picture pretty much answers the fuel question.
