Hello All,
My brother has been especially helpful with camp repairs this summer, so I'd like to get him something cool for Christmas. I was thinking that since Dad's and my camps are in Moultonborough, that it might be nice to do a helicopter ride there, but I was looking at Seacoast Helis' Island of Shoals tour and that looks cool, too. There could either be 2 (him and his wife), 3 (Dad, him, his wife) or 5 (me, my wife, Dad, him, his wife). Anyone have suggestions on which might be better--heli or plane--and some options that might be spectacular. Cost is somewhat important, but the experience is more so. Thanks! |

Plane's are generally cheaper the helo's. A helo tour is fun too, I took one in NYC last summer and it was great. Google "Fixed Base Operators at... " or "Flight instruction at..." whatever airport is near where you want to start from. Flight instructors will be glad to take a charter in a 2, 4 or six seat plane.
Good luck! |

Just a resource.
You might call the folks at the airport. Moultonborough Airport. Moultonborough, NH 03254 (603) 986-7338 Or Stop in at Larson's Automotive 969 Whittier Hwy, Moultonborough, NH 03254 At the airport. Larson's Shop is part automotive and part airplane hanger. There is usually some airplane guys there that might know. Mr. Larson is a licensed pilot. He does not provide rides though. But he may be a good resource. |

could have the sea plane that runs out of paugus bay drop off at the dock if available at the camp
that would be pretty cool

I have gone up with Dave French of Lakes Region Seaplane Services (603-387-7575) out of Paugus Bay a number of times and he has always picked me up and dropped me off right at my breakwater. He is very accommodating!
Dave is a great pilot and the ride is very scenic, informative and a lot of fun. I highly recommend it! Dan

I just reread your post, cost is important, so you should go for an airplane. An airplane that can carry 2 passengers will be exponentially cheaper than one that can carry 5 (plus the pilot).

Sounds like people prefer airplane to helicopter tours?

Got to agree with the seaplane. Got it for my dads birthday right of the end of the dock. Was a great experience. Dave also explained a lot of cool stuff about the lake along the way. Really nice people. Got it again for my mother in laws birthday 2 years later. But I didn't make the cut for that flight. I think they can take max 4 passengers.

We're in Hanson Cove, so I think the seaplane thing is out for there, but I'll give him a call and talk to him. Thanks!

Called Emerson and Dave-the-seaplane guy and both were easy to talk to, and the prices are great. There's just something cooler about a helicopter, though, so I think I'm going with Seacoast Helos for my bro and his wife--it's somewhere around $350 for two people for an hour tour along the coast/lighthouses. A plane would be just over half that, so we might do that in summer/fall. Pretty cool that we have all these options!
