Default Another One

I've always considered "Born to be Wild" by Steppenwolf to be one of my favorite summer songs, going (way!) to back to my 20s:

Get your motor runnin'
Head out on the highway
Looking for adventure
In whatever comes our way

Yeah, darlin'
Gonna make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space

Rag Doll ... The Four Seasons.
First heard it while cruising the CT shoreline in my AH Sprite with the top down on a warm summer evening.

I gotta agree with CateP ..... "Stairway to Heaven" has got to be at the top of my list ..... but ..... followed closely by:
2) "Communication Breakdown" <--- playing this repetitively at (or above) the threshold of pain got me kicked out of my grandmother's home in Melvin during the summer of 1970
3) "Lay Lady Lay" <--- fortunately I found alternative room accommodations sleeping in the attic of Wawbeek Cottage Colony's office (thank you, Chet Fernald!). This song helped me to feel sorry for myself and always kinda put me in the zone
4) "Hey Joe"
5) "Love is Blue" <--- I'll bet no one remembers this one (I won't bore you ..... it's a long story!)

Oh, and mine" Cuz there ain't no cure for the Summertime Blues." Eddie Cochran, and then Alan Jackson years later.

Love is Blue is fantastic. I forgot about that one. I think there's an instrumental version and vocal version. I have to download that one.

Thanks

If you like instrumentals from the 70's check out these two great ones.

Mantovani "Theme From Midnight Cowboy"
Tony Hatch "Soal Coaxing"

Another great summer song is "Suavecito" by Malo

It is a great song. Was 16, I think when it came out. I loved so much I learned it on the piano and can still play it. (Paul Mauriat). Try this live version...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEUJBQ1uI4M

Also, for the record, I think my favriote summer song is Nat King Cole, "Lazy, Crazy, Hazy Days of Summer". Just hearing it makes me want to go to the beach or out in the boat.

Sorry, I confused the songs. The Who did a version of Sumertime Blues, not bad, but hard to beat the original.

This thread is going to develop into a playlist on my iPod!

Not sure of the time frame but one of our [my wife and I] favorite summer songs was STARLAND VOCAL BAND, AFTERNOON DELIGHT. My kids could never understand why we liked it so much. And we never told them either.

Wayward Wind by Gogie Grant is one of my all time favorites but long before the 70's.

So many good memories on this thread and many from our days of camping at Gunstock every summer for many years.

Ha Ha!! Good one, re-invented by Matt Damon in the movie Good Will Hunting.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned listening to a baseball game on the radio. I mean really does it get any better?

I guess these 2 really date me, but the songs that bring me back to past summers are:

Pat Boone's "Love Letters in the Sand" &

You're right about Joe Bonnamassa. He's unreal. Saw him in concert in Boston.
I love "Mountain Time" If you like Joe you should check out a band he was in recently called "Black Country Communion" with Glenn Hughes from Deep Purple on lead vocals and and Jason Bonham on drums. Great stuff! Check out Glenn Hughes at 7:08.

Joe is an incredible guitar player! I also saw him in Boston a few years ago. Glenn Hughes is my absolute favorite singer, songwriter, by far. Seen him a few times in different locations over the years. The most memorable was at BB Kings Blues Club in NYC. He is truly one of a kind! Here's one of his ballads and one of my favorites...

Island Girl,

I remember that song "Wayward Wind". It was playing the morning I woke up knowing we were leaving Lake Winni that day to go back home to NJ. Have mixed emotions when I hear that song now.

"Save Your Heart For Me" (walk along the lake with someone new) by Gary Lewis and the Playboys (1965). Oh yes- summer love!

Another song with good lake memories is: "little Red Rented Row Boat" ( 1962) by Joe Dowell. This song brings back memories because when I was young summer tourists rented cabins in Green's Basin. Each cabin came with a red row boat. I use to see everyone rowing around.
