darn thing flew across the road... in front of the car... had to slam on the brakes and lean on the horn before it gained any height! (Next time I'm keeping it, understand?)

Two of the neighbors feed them and every year the flock grows.
One day my wife said there must have been around 80 turkeys hanging out. I know I regularly see at least 30-40. I've dodged them many times and wondered the same thing. My son got one last year with his bow and said it was great eating.

Game is considered state property. F&G is responsible for collecting road-kill and if it has any value (like fur) they have to preserve it for sale or useful disposal. If you can reach an F&G officer promptly to report the incident they will probably allow you to keep your road-kill. Make sure you note who you spoke with since it is technically poaching to possess game that was not legally taken.
Or... Toss in in your trunk and hope no one saw you! (There's nothing like freshly grilled game! ![]() |

They are good eating, breasts are the only part you really eat. I can't be bothered with birds to much effort for little result, but my neighbor and I traded some turkey for venison. I'd never want to process/pluck one though, unless it was at 60 MPH and the impact blew all the feathers off! ![]() |

Just stopping by to remind everyone to take it easy on the roads around the lake... and honk your horn plenty so the hen will think twice about leading her brood out onto the asphalt again!
p.s. this is not my pic... I was too busy honking to focus the camera.

You do know that's a grouse and not a turkey.
Grouse are a lot more skitish than turkeys. Last edited by dave603; 07-27-2013 at 06:48 PM. Reason: spelling |

I drove right through the middle of a large flock of turkeys last week and never got one of them

Yes. As I passed them, I saw the chicks peering out between the blades of grass along the side of the road: "What IS THAT??" The cars behind me stopped to take photos (tourists?)

To bad Canadian Geese don't typically try crossing the road on foot cause there are way to many of them around. Don't think you'd want to keep or eat one.

Like some game meats, goose is probably only good when made into sausage; and it is delicious that way, I can tell you from personal experience.

I agree, Maxum. I do think the state is going to have to take a serious look at the goose situation around the lake. Don't mean to stray off topic, so I will just say I wish they did love to cross the road.

Don't get me started on the goose situation.

Hmm... hunting season is coming...
and if I understand "Donna, the deer lady" correctly... all I need is a few strategically placed deer crossing signs. ![]() http://youtu.be/CI8UPHMzZm8
