Wow,no pfd's.The 1st pwc I operated was on Glenn lake.It is actually the Piscataqua river with a dam.I tried remounting a wetbike and struggled while the dam was getting very close.I'm still here.

I read the similar article in the Union Leader this morning. That story stated that neither were wearing the required PFDs. If they were on a 3 or 4 seat PWC, PFDs are not required to be worn, as that size PWC is considered to be a boat.

With that said, I have never, not once ridden my PWC without wearing a PFD. And I consider myself an experienced rider, have owned a PWC for 10 years now.

Any way, sorry to hear about this accident, I hope they both make a full recovery.

A PWC IS a boat and the PFD(s) need to be readily accessible. NH defines that as within arms reach and not in a closed container.

Add to the mix the fact that this type of vessel is more apt to get you thrown into the water with a chance of going unconscious and your have all the reasons you need to wear a proper PFD and have it buckled or zipped up.

What were these people thinking? My guess is they did not have Safe Boating Certification either. Anybody want to put out odds on that?

I get a kick out the newspaper calling a "SeaDoo" a "jet ski".

They are both “Ski Craft” (PWC) trademarked brand names.

I guess it's just easier to call all PWC's a "Jet Ski".

Rusty that is and has been the norm ever since I can remember.
Jetski is the most common term used to describe a PWC ever since they first came out.

It is pretty normal. I have owned 2 PWCs, both Sea Doos. And I still call the one I currently own a jet ski, even though I know that it is the Kawasaki brand name.

If I tell a non-boater that I am going on my PWC, they have no idea what I am talking about. If I say jet ski, then no problem.

Say, could you make me a Xerox of this? Ooops I mean a copy.

Weren't the first "jetskis" made by Bombadier and called Seadoos? Gawd, I remember having to lean forward so much in order to get it on plane.

No, I'm pretty sure those came after the Kawasaki stand-up jet-ski's.

I *think* the Wetbikes might have come before the jet-ski, or least be from the same era (mid 70's).

1) Even with PFDs, I suspect there are many more rescues than make it to newsprint. I conducted my own double-rescue last Friday—as I recorded elsewhere:

I wonder if the rider exceeded the weight shown on the PWC capacity plate.

I always associated the name Jetski with the first stand up models for the obvious reason that you would stand on the jet powered ski.
