One I know freezes the fresh crushed berries, then all year long makes jam as she chooses. Nothing necessary needs to be done before freezing in zip lock baggies, a measured amount for her recipe.

We also freeze a few quarts. Our approach is to spread fresh whole berries on cookie sheets and freeze them. When they are solid we transfer to zip lock bags and back to the freezer. This way they do not freeze into a clump and later whole berries can be measured out for various uses. More jam or in our case probably batches of home made ice cream. We use the same approach for fresh picked strawberries.

We went to smiths yesterday, thanks to seeing this thread I never knew they were there..
We picked 5 quarts, nice berries but getting "picked" over. Gentleman there said this would most likely be their last week. Short season, and lack of rain.
