North of Moultonborough Bay, the ice really melted big time today. There was light wind moving things around and by the end of the day, lots of little ice islands and a few bigger sheets left. The first few feet of the sheets were dark and grainy, rippling as small waves from dock bubblers hit the edges. As JeffK said, very unusual melting patterns for this part of the lake, which is usually iced out well before the other parts. This year, its sort of everything melting at once. The snow is mostly gone from the yard, about a month ahead of time. Mud season is all but over!
