Spring Is Not Too Far Away or Is It?
Maybe it is winter and we are buried in snow but I am thinking Spring! I sent off my 2011 rack storage deposit today and it got me to thinking. It's only 51 days until Spring! March 21st is the first day of Spring and after that we will be waiting for the day "Ice Out" is declared on the lake. I even made plans today with my girlfriend for our first cruise of the new season - hoping for May 1.

Wish I could be as optimistic as you are. If the snow is completely gone from the Gilford hills by mid-April, it will be a miracle.

DW and I leave 2/19 out of NYC for 8 days to Nassau on NCL. It will be summer for us, before it is Spring at home.

I didn't realize you could get cruise ships out of NYC at this time of year, how long before you get into warmer waters? Was the price a lot cheaper out of NYC than say Miami, if you don't mine me asking.

Just looked out the window at all the snow piled up, and am wishing I had a cruise booked right now!

Sorry, left out question about warmer waters. You won't want to swim until you reach Nassau. Cape Canveral is still pretty cool in February. Go to Disney or one of the other attractions. Talk to your TA, "travel agent" or go to NCL.com. TAs can't offer discounts, so you can make your best deal with the line. |

daylight
I find it extremely encouraging just that we have another 40 minutes or so of daylight in the afternoon now ! But we seem stuck in this weather pattern and I don't see Spring coming ealry. But you never know.
About cruises, we sailed NCL out of Boston and it was our favorite cruise. It was great not to have to deal with the airplane flights. Cost was comparable to the cruises out of Miami. |

I look at it this way -- just 12-14 weeks 'til I open up...

Well I don't know what this spring is going to hold for ice out... But what I have learned after many years around the big lake, is that just because, we have good ice, and a lot of snow now, doesn't mean that come the end of February that we will be stuck in the same situation.... I never make a prediction on ICE OUT until the end of February...
My goal as it always has been is to have the camp open by mid April... and the dock in by May 1st.... I have missed on getting the dock in more then once, but I usually always have the camp open before the end of April.... Just Sold.... Depending on your agenda for that first cruise, and if I can get the dock in, there is always a place to visit at the beginning of may out on LI...

I have been Ice Boating (Fast Sail) out of Gilford on April 1st. Warm...50ish..not much wind, and BIG holes where the ice fishing holes "used to be". My "Soft Water" boat was already back in the water in Rhode Island. NB

It can't get here quick enough for me,Thursday head out and check the roof where I stored the boat. I knew Florida was a good idea this year.
