Been There
I had a five way ten years ago when I was fifty. After a few weeks you'll feel really good. One week later was driving and four weeks later did a mountain climb. Still going strong. I know what a heart condition feels like.
The best vacation I ever had.... Good Luck Listen to your doctors. |

Best wishes...
to you, River Rat, and a speedy recovery. I hear you about all the Lakes Region food..I am still trying to walk off mine from June...in the Alabama heat! Everything has its price..but that was worth it, although it is probably just as well I'm far from it most of the time! Take care!

Speedy Recovery Riverat
Sometimes you don't know how good you feel until you don't feel well!
I hope you feel better fast Riverat - listen to your doctors and do all the rehab stuff (like cardiac rehabilitation, diet, medication and etc.). Keep a positive attitude. I tried to convince my health insurance that Lake Winnipesauke was therapeutic and they should cover the cost of my recuperation there. Although they agreed with me about the healing benefits they said it wasn't covered by insurance (but I had to try ). We'll look forward to seeing you on the big lake very soon .

Thank you all for the well wishing, I am doing what I have to do to get better, but boy, that sausage gravy and biscuits could sure lead a man astray.
I am only 56 and had 7 stents in me, but this time there was no more room for any stents. I am glad the worse is over and am looking forward to the Forum Fest. See you there!

Here is some diet advice I had to take for bad arteries. Cut out red meat. Eat fish (like salmon) and chicken with no skin etc. Sweet potatos, blueberries, almonds, asparagus, broccoli, spinach, tomatoes, walnuts, tofu, garlic, flaxseed, ginger, salads, mangoes (cold juicy fruits can substitute for things like ice cream).
I love ice cream, steak, lamb chops, potato chips, candy pizza, Chinese food, (you get the idea). BUT HECK. I WANT TO STAY ALIVE. Isn't easy but worth trying. Do you take a cholesterol med? Have a cardiologist friend who thinks everyone should take one. Also WALK. I am going to try more exercise. Best of luck to you!!! YOU CAN DO IT!! |

Thanks for the advice, Lucky1. I am not a stranger to diets and what ffods to eat and not eat, now I have graduated to insullin shots(5 per day) and am on a high protien diet now for healing but will be going to cardiac rerhab shortly where it will be more low carb and low calorie heart healthy diet for sure. But I am progressing very well and intend to continue to do so, this weather is way to nice to waste.
Thank you all for your support and enjoy it while you can.

Good to know more and more medically recommended diets are going low carb, high protein. It makes a major difference compared with traditional low-fat diets. Nothing wrong with red meat or some fat, but the carbs can indeed make you unhealthy.

I recall reading a study that had been done for a long period of years and it showed that the best indicators for early death were eating red meat and eating processed foods. |
