Question well, it's over.

The Patriots are the champs.

So, with this win comes the opportunity to talk about things other than the lake. I will be in trouble, and if that is what Don has to do, I will feel really, really bad, but I need to know where I can talk, FREELY, about things New England. I love "THE" Lake, but it's not all there is in New England. If someone can direct me to a site where I will not be so restricted, I would appreciate it. TIA.

Stay safe, all, and don't forget to check out www.thatjoshgrobanguy.com and look under media......2002 "O Holy Night"....or anything else, for that matter. It will give you all something (else) to do while betting on when the ice will leave.

Talking That D word, what's it called ?

Well it's over and done. As expected the Pats rule but Eagle fans can feel good in that the game was a close one. I guess it just wouldn't be right with out the Pats winning via an A.V. field goal. Neither offense performed that well and there were enough missed opportunities to keep fans on both sides going "if only ...". Now I'm off to have some pie ... aaahh that would be blueberry pie !

Lady Di, I see you listed your home town as "Grobania".

I always thought that was Gro (Grow) plus Bane (Bane, a word meaning ruination) + "ia" (a common suffix). Put another way, that you lived in a big town, ruining the natural environment. (Like Orlando). Now I know better.

Thanks for the link. Haunting melody and excellent promotion. I've added the first page to my "Favorites", hoping to play it at Winnipesaukee's edge while I peruse this Forum during games that I don't watch.

Default GLENN STEELY where are you????

OK,I have been biting my lip for two weeks listening to GS.No more! I would like to thank Glenn Steely for reminding us Pats fans why we are the CHAMPS and the rest of the league are also rans. You DON'T RUN YOUR MOUTH!!That's not how to win a championship.Shut your trap, practice hard, play as a TEAM.No look at me mentality like Owens flapping his wings when they have not even scored a point. Thanks again TO for adding more fuel to the fire. The Pats were all too happy to mimick your foolish dance!Act like you've been there before.Oh that's right,Phili has not been there for 23 years and has NEVER won a Superbowl so we understand. How would you like your crow prepared GS?Yes,I am gloating a bit but we have earned the right to. Congradulations 3 time Superbowl Champion New England Patriots!! Having said that,I do think T.O. played great and Westbrook and Donavan had their moments. The Eagles defense also played well. But they ran into a DYNASTY.YES GLENNSTEELY,NOT A DIE NASTY, BUT A DYNSASTY!!! READ IT AND WEEP!!!! SS

Chris, you are a breath of fresh air in the smog of Eagles fans.Listening to the first hand reports on the Boston sports talk show of the behavior of a lot of Eagle fans at the game was too bad cuz unfairly or not,it does reflect on all of the fans.Takes a big man to fess up.I must admit the Eagles did surprize me and put out a great effort so hats off to your team.As far as your"If only",the one that would apply is,If only they didn't play the Patriots.Maybe we'll meet again next year. Default Eagles Fans

Funny, I haven't heard anything about bad Eagles fans (either in the national or local media). That isn't to say that there weren't any (but every team has its bad fans). It is unfortunate that things that happened 35 years ago (the snowball throwing at a drunken Santa Clause) have been perpetuated by the media. We are passionate. How else do you explain 30,000 un-ticketed fans making the trip.

Most of the "man on the street" interviews I saw last night and today, were of people who were heartbroken, but the talk was already of next year.

When the Eagles arrive today at 3:00 I am sure that the Airport will be swarmed with people who just want to say thanks for a great season.

Yeah, it hurts, especially when you are so emotionally invested in something, but it is, after all, just a game. And.......

There is always next year.

Thumbs up Hard to Swallow

Yep...this was indeed a hard loss, but not unexpected (on paper, anyway).

Consider the "couldas": Eagles held Pats scoreless for most of the first half. But they committed the one mortal mistake that they could afford in this game: turnovers. Still, they were IN THE GAME with five minutes left. Bottom line: They lost it. Had McNabb been "on" (a la GB mauling), the result probably would've been different. But the better team prevailed.

I have to admit, way back when the playoffs started (and even before) I picked the Pats and Iggles in the Bowl, and picked the Pats to win again.

That being said, I truly believed they would pull it off, but it became evident
verey early on that this was not the case. You can't turn the ball over more
than once and expect to win. The defense was great for both teams -- the Pats are sooooo good at magnifying your weaknesses. Brilliant. Force McNabb and he'll under-throw, over-throw, and be very predictable.

Pats entered the locker room at halftime and adjusted their game -- and it paid off almost immediately. The Eagles obviously went in for a potty break and little more. McNabb shoulda'would/coulda adjusted, calmed down, and done little things -- like making 3-4 step drops instead of 7...keeping his eyes open to 2nd and 3rd receivers (he did the same thing in the previous two games...leaving receivers open). What was with the clock management in the fourth quarter!!?? Etc., etc., etc. All sorts of Monday Morning QB'ing going on here!

The good news is that the Eagles have been prudent & smart with the cap, have locked in some young talent for the foreseeable future, and *should* return to a fifth NFC title game for at least three of the next five years.

Now I'm beginning to understand how Bills fans feel.

So now it's over...'til the fall. Pitchers and catchers report in another two weeks...

gfe

Bottom line: Pats rule. The better team won. Belichick is the man.

And, if I may, one last observation for all of you T.O.-bashers...

In the post-game press conference, he addressed those who still think of him as the self-absorbed "selfish" player that he was perceived to be while in San Francisco. "The media made it a situation to where they thought I was grandstanding. But like I told a lot of people. If [that was] Brett Favre, they would have called him a warrior. For me, they said I was selfish. If I'm selfish, I'm selfish because I want to help my team win."

I think this summarizes T.O.'s season with Philadelphia quite nicely. He was, by all accounts, a REAL team player this year. There were none of the characteristic outbursts, and his team mates and coaches ALL speak quite highly of his contributions -- both on the field and the locker room. His performance last night, in light of his injury, was nothing short of spectacular. I'm looking forward to see what he does this coming fall!

Congrats, Pats!

Question Late answer

SS,

Sorry for the late answer but I had putter problems. All fixed now.

As for the "meaningless game". I'm not sure about that. When they lost they were in the run for home field advantage in the playoffs. To loose a game at that time of the year could be meaningless if it doesn't cost you anything. But at the time home field advantage was still in question. But it's all behind us now and the next year is in the dreaming stage.

Actually TOW,I thought Pittsburg had already clinched the home field advantage by the Miami game, but I just checked and I was wrong. If NE beat Miami that Monday,Pittsburg would have clinched the following week. But I do think it was a wake-up call nonetheless.Doesn't matter now but Can you say Threepeat?? WHERE'S GLENNSTEELY? SS

SS,

Thanks for going back and checking. Takes a big person to do that and then post they may have been in error. As you said it doesn't matter now, and yes I can say, or at least dream THREEPEAT.

YA, where is GLENNSTEELY???

It does take awhile to prepare one's self to eat CROW though.

ToW

Oops, to stay within the forum rules,,,,,, Maybe GLENNSTEELY will eat the crow at the Wolfeboro towm docks for all to see.

There all better Don.

ToW

P.S. Don, Thanks for letting us have this thread for our Pats bantering.

Default Well I am back.....

I was out of town for my sisters wedding for bowl weekend, I am a man and I give respect where respect is due.....Congratulations to the Patriots and their fan basis....The Patriots were the better team on Sunday. It was a close one and I know you guys were sweating (just a little maybe?) But the real saying in Pro Football is "good teams find ways to win" and a very good team did just that. You guys are a classy bunch, first, I had to watch the game with a bunch of giants and jets fans, since my sister lives in North Jersey, and 2nd, today, my first day back at work since the game I had to deal with a whole bunch of Eagles Haters......but the place where I talked the most smack......you all respond with class......just a reminder to self of why I love New Hampshire so much.

So, I am here to claim what is mine....an extra large slice of humble pie with a side order of crow, rare, au jus, if you would not mind.......

I guess I will go choke on my cheesesteak and long for a lobster roll, and like Chris said........WE WILL SEE YOU IN DETROIT.

We should save that for next year.

Now, back to posting on the lake, and everything that will keep me from being dehydrated from tear loss........see you all in other threads.

Sincerely....Glenn Steely

And the mark of a true gentleman. I second Propeller's emotion. And I wish to thank Glenn for such amusing reading, and Don, for allowing us our departure from the rules for this extraordinary thread.

Thumbs up Class

Glenn,

Class, pure class.

Now as for the humbel pie, it goes well with icecream. The crow however can be tough so stew it for a while and it'll go down easier. Will you be dinning at a Lakes region area where we can join you? to watch that is.

As for next year, you really want the pats again It would be a great rematch I'm thinking.

Thanks for your posts in this thread. Like you said this forum was a place where the fans spoke of the teams. games, players, each other without all the true trash talk. It was fun posting with you and all the others. I only hope we can do it again.
