Thumbs up Fireworks Report

The Alton Bay fireworks tonight were very enjoyable. It went off right on schedule and lasted for 20 minutes with a nice finale. We took the bike for easy parking and a quick exit. As we headed north there was a good view of the boats starting to depart, the biggest crowd of boats we have ever seen there for fireworks. Of course the perfect weather helped a lot.
In these tight budget times we were happy to see a good show.

We watched the Alton fireworks from our boat right off Sandy Point and it was great as always. There certainly were a lot of boats but I remember more in years past, still a pretty solid crowd though. The Winni Belle was late in arriving, usually they get there early and the band is great to listen to.

As usual the fireworks in Ashland were fabulous. We had a friend visiting from MA and he said they were the best that he has ever seen. We enjoyed a lovely dinner at the Common Man and then we headed down the hill with our chairs to watch the wonderful display. Tomorrow night we will watch them in Center Harbor.

Alton was packed - one of the best crowds I've seen in a while. We were up by Sandy Point and it was SRO even that far from the Bay. Argie had a gig that night in Tamworth, so it was me and the Arglets. I don't know what's better about fireworks - watching the show or watching the kids watch the show!

P.S.
Those of you at the Alton firework display... did anyone notice an airplane making the rounds during the show? Is it me, or did it seem like they were too close to the action?

Default saw it too

My thought was that it may have been a news service plane, either TV or news paper.

I did not think they were that close to the action.

I saw planes pass by three times, it seemed to me that it was commercial traffic and was not really close to the fireworks. The girls kept saying "they're shooting the fireworks right at the plane" so maybe my judgement of distance was off ???

Default meredith fireworks

best quality in awhile.must have been 300+ boats out there. only complaint is that they should slow the pace so you can enjoy each burst. only lasted 15 minutes

Fireworks in Wolfeboro were as usual pretty good, but what really was impressive was the private show somebody on the western shore of Wolfeboro bay put on afterwords. It lasted a good 45 minutes, great music and one hell of a display. Don't know who those folks were, they obviously put out a whole lot of $$ to do it, but for me and quite a few boats that went over to enjoy it after the main show, it was great!

We were watching that as well and it was impressive! They did same thing last year also. All in all the Wolfeboro fireworks were great once again!

Default Question

Before the Alton Fireworks display there was a live band playing in the Town bandstand.

An hour or so before the Fireworks started, I heard canned music coming from a sound system. This canned music did a great job of drowning out the live music.

During the fireworks the canned music played patriotic songs (they did not have a lot of them so they kept repeating them).

Did anyone else hear this and if so was the music coming from a boat in the bay or from a shop on the shore?

We were moored off Sandy Point and watched the plane. We figured that the plane was circulating so that any commercial or others would stay out of the area of target.

I was amazed at the capt. boneheads that came up from behind in 20' distance on both sides at the same time at more than headway speed. And it was not just one or two, but many. So much for 150' rule or courtesy.

I agree. We were out on the bay and got a good spot close to the fireworks barge. We had some friends and their 5 and 6 year old kids with us, everyone enjoyed the show and the night time cruise back.

Default Center Harbor

Well I watched the Center Harbor Fireworks Hanging back between 5 mile, 6 mile, and bear Island. They where beautiful Sunday Night.... I then headed out by FL2 and over to the LI, and Sandy Island Cut.... There where Fireworks visible all around it was a beautiful all around.... Upon heading over to the cut between LI and Little Bear, there was a very nice display from the Southerlee shores beach....

All in all it was a very nice quiet night on the water....

We watched the Alton display from our docks. A good one this year and a lot more boats than the past year or 2. I'm not surprised about how many Capt B's were out, they were as thick as Canada geese on a grass lawn. Anyway same was true in Meredith the next night. We did the boat trip there and it was also a good display though I think Alton did it better. I lost track of the number of times I was passed at <50' and at max wake speed on both sides as we headed out of the bay (and while staying close to port shore as possible). Even had one true bonehead pass me on my starboard then cut in front of me (<50' away) to go to shore ... only to find out he did that too early. So out from shore he came only to repeat the action again. I was tempted to "Littlefield" him but I thought my passengers might not like the extra fireworks.

ps - How about that "low flier" (not da plane) about 5 mins into the Alton display ? Betcha that soiled some underwear !

For a second or two I thought it was part of the show then it was clear that it was a miss-fire. Looked like the launch tube had split.

There was a ground level detonation in Wolfeboro near the beginning of the show. One of those big globe style blew without going up and made a dome shape. Show did not miss a beat. Great show.

My opinion is the fireworks at Weirs Beach were the best in several years. Great color, great variety...and it lasted about 20 minutes. The weather had a part in the overall enjoyment, but the show was excellent.

I had a lot of fun capturing the official Wolfeboro fireworks with the impressive FlipShare. Thanks Don! and most especially Paul!!!

The double ending of the fireworks were a nice surprise.
