Default Good and Bad experiences at lakes region restaurants

Let's all try to tell what our experiences are like at several restaurants and why we like or dislike different ones. Not mean posts with lots of drama but just good experiences and bad experiences and why. Here is my offering.

I have twice earlier this year been turned away at Sam and Rosie's as Sunday they used to close at noon. I went with a gal who was visiting and told her how great the lobster rolls were. The husband liked to get out right at noon and was angry if one came close to noon and sometimes would not let them in so he changed his time to 11:45???? Thus Sunday Sam and Rosie's CLOSED AT 11:45. They are now open until 2 PM!! It is my belief that The Bob House which does have great food and lobster rolls ($12.99) is cutting into BOTH Village Kitchen and Sam and Rosie's. I got a lobster roll at Sam and Rosie's Monday as The Bob House was closed. I agree that they are a bit better at Sam and Rosie's but they are much more expensive and they used to close at noon on Sunday. I tried to go for lunch to Sam and Rosie's with my daughter earlier in the spring and again it was a Sunday and too close to noon. The husband was rude. I think people should set hours and then allow people in if they are open until noon. We went down to Church Landing for brunch (which was not wonderful) instead. I have been going to the Woodshed since it opened. In my opinion and that of several friends it has gone down hill. My last two visits have been awful. One had a special that was a small filet and a lobster tail. The lobster was cold and funny looking and tasted strange. I told the waitress who said that it was fine and had just been sitting near the ice? I ate one more bite and called her over again. (all of my daughters have been waitresses during summer break from college etc. and I know that the first response should be to take away the food and ask what they can do). All I wanted was a lobster tail that tasted good enough to eat. The waitress came over and said she would bring another lobster tail. I do not know where she got it but it was fresh and had that wondeful lobster taste! It was also warm. Perhaps she took it from a whole lobster. A short time later someone came to my table and said that I had been quite helpful as they had received a poor shipment and were not offering that meal anymore as two other people had complained and she would not be charging me for the lobster tail. That was last year. Earlier this year I was asked to go with a neighbor. I said it was not one of my favorite places and I liked to get lobster. She called the Woodshed and asked if they had lobsters. They said that they did. She then asked if they were freshly cooked at the time one ordered and was told that they were. I agreed to go. We made a reservation for 6:45 PM on a Friday evening. My friend made the comment that this is the economy to be able to get a reservation an hour before on a Friday evening. We arrived full of expectation of a great lobster. My friend had wanted to cook lobsters but I preferred to go out. Lobsters were $24.95 for one pounders. She grumbled at me. When the waiter arrived we said we would both have the lobster. The waiter then told us that they only had one lobster left????? She said she would have scallops. I said that we would leave. We then went to the North End when we saw the sign that said Lobster Special. There we had a wonderful 1 1/4 pound lobster with a nice salad and rolls offered for $19.95. We also ordered a nice side pasta that we split. I do not know what to tell you. I am not going to be going to Sam and Rosie's as much as I like people to smile and be happy to have you and not watching the clock to see how close to closing you are and turn you away if you are too late to get them right out the door. I also do not want old food that does not taste good at the Woodshed. (If it is any help to you, I have several friends who do not like the Woodshed any longer.) I do love The Bob House but it is because it is good food at reasonable prices and one does not have to battle the owner or the waitress to get it. All the best.

Default Wow!

Holy Christ...really??!!!

Here are the Cliff Notes:

Sam and Rosies closes a bit early.

The Bob House, which is "the be all, end all", is killing Sam and Rosies and the VK (I thought SAMIAM looked nervous last time I was there).

Church landing is OK, but not great.

The Woodshed charges too much for lobster, but that's OK. They don't have any anyway.

And, again, I am in love with The Bob House.

That about sum it up?????????????

Default Was asked to tell my experience saying why I did not wish to return to the Woodshed

I have been here since I was 8. If you turn every post into someone must be dishonest and either has an agenda or whatever it is that you think is my simple attempt to find out new information (for instance I learned that Kevin's has lobster rolls)you will learn nothing at all of what others think about some restaurants. Then you will have a useless forum. I am just back from The Corner House and had a tomato stuffed with lobster. It had very little lobster. Period. I would not order it again and think less of The Corner House because of this meal. I have read posts on here where someone said here is where I ate this past week and went on to describe the different restaurants in ways that were positive and negative. I am a new member but if this turns out to be only whining drama, then I do not think it will be useful. I happen to like the Bob House. That is a fact. It is new and I have not had a bad experience there. However, I resent your saying that to be positive about a restaurant and negative or neutral about some others means that I am some sort of a "plant". I do not know the people who run it. I also said that I had a great experience at North End which no one seems to have noticed????? If you feel that VK and Sam and Rosie's and The Woodshed are what you enjoy.......go there.

Might I suggest that you learn to cook and eat at home ? Other than Bob's, seems like you hate just about every restaurant in the area. It must be very frustrating to not be able to find but one decent restaurant in the area. I'm wondering if you should just stop trying...doesn't seem like you are an easy person to please. Have you tried the 1/3 pounder at Micky D's?

and you obviously missed the irony in the second post as he was trying to make the point that it is very difficult to read your posts because of the lack of punctuation paragraph breaks or any semblance of writing style. Perhaps it would help if you tried a writing class I stopped reading your post after the first "sentence" as it was too hard to follow. Perhaps by reading this you understand what we mean? If not please do not get upset when others do not quite understand what you were trying to say with a lot of wordy run-on sentences

Default Welcome

LovelyToSeeYou - welcome to the forum.

I read your first post on this thread and felt bad for you at first. I thought the other posters had been a bit rough on you. But then I read other posts on other threads. Holy moly. Although you're more than welcome to your opinion and I'd be the first to say you have that right, but at the same time you've stepped on a lot of toes here in a short amount of time. OUCH!

Do you know what a troll is? It's someone who comes onto a forum and stirs up a bunch of crap by provoking other posters on the forum. Maybe you mean to do this or maybe not, as you say you have "no agenda", but it's my opinion that you're fitting into the description of an internet troll right now.

Default Just me??

Am I just out in left field or what? It would seem that one gets more from reading posts of peoples' good experiences at restaurants. You'll hear of places, dishes etc. that might make you want to go try it. Usually others will jump in and second a good report, too. Of course it is all "JMO"...whatever the post. I just feel it's counterproductive and unfair, lots of times, to criticize, especially if you've only been once or twice. If I like a place, I'll say so; I'm reluctant to criticize, though...especially in a venue as public as the forum. The restaurant business is very tough, I am sure. Bad days are possible anywhere; to say nothing of the costs associated with trying to run one. I remember the "rocky road" of discussion last year over The Lobster Pound. Well--no matter-- we went while there this summer and had an awesome lobster meal!! JMO!

: laugh:

I know it is against the rules, and Don will probably monitor me because of the multiple laughing icons, but I haven't laughed so hard all summer after reading all of your responses to the Lovely's post. Thank you all! Here's a few more.:la ugh:, if I have to spend time in purgatory, I might as well get my money's worth. Thanks SA for starting this laugh festival for me.

Default A happy retired grandmother who has loved the lake since I was a small child.

I actually have just gone to the place for topics not covered to ask if any others have posted and feel attacked for being somehow dishonest. I am losing my interest in a group who seem to be more like angry teenagers than intelligent seekers of the truth. There are actually people here saying that it would perhaps be better to post only positive reviews as the restaurant business is a hard one???? LOL Others seem to say that if one likes a new restaurant and says how great it is, they must have an agenda and know the owners or something? Then there are others who feel they not only have to rush in to say how great any restaurant is that another might not like but to attack the one posting? How long have you all been spending time here doing this? I am too busy enjoying the day for this at the moment.

LTSY,

I'm going to take the tack that you are genuine in your posts and not affiliated with the Bob House and offer you some constructive criticism.

Give your positive opinions without putting down another place. Tell us if you had a bad experience.

There are plenty of places that I have been to that are OK- not great but not bad. I choose to just not write anything (what is that old saying? "The silence is deafening") about them as it really serves little purpose.

Default Wow

Great diversion though

I just got back from a very peaceful ride on beautiful calm water. I happened to check new posts and wondered what all the flutter was about.

Nice screen name BTW Lovely .

I'm afraid I haven't been to the Woodshed in many years, and unfortunately I've never been to the others you "mentioned". I tend to be critical, and many times, sarcastic. An unfortunate side affect of my many years troubleshooting, consulting, and meeting harsh deadlines. So I cut some slack on the critics, and try to get some info from it. Too often, people are prone to giving great reviews when things might not be so great. I have pretty high expectations, so I can relate to some extent. But I'm tempering with age

Perhaps your restaurant critic days are numbered. You've really got no room for growth, and after labor day, your market is still shrinking.

Did I mention how great the Lobster Pound was?

Default Hi VT Steve

Wow a real person. How did you get in???? Thanks for the name compliment and it sure is LovelyToSeeYou!!!! I tried to answer a minute ago but lost the power. So am trying again. I try to be honest and say what I think. Would you believe that a simple comment on how there was so little lobster in the stuffed tomato that I thought less of the restaurant, caused that to be some sort of a reason for attacking me? I have said good things about several restaurants and made some constructive comments on what bothered me about some others. It is true that I like a new restaurant that is not expensive and is near to me. I was amused at how this board lit up to make me out to be some sort of a spy or something to discredit other restaurants to make this new one appear better? How could that possibly work? I mean if people like a restaurant they go back, and if they feel that they are insulted or have poor food they go elsewhere. Afterall this is not kindergarten. People will have their own opinions on the food. So I am a bit puzzled but over it. I have raised teenagers, you know??? LOL Little upsets me. I did try posting on another board to see if anyone had experienced being attacked and accused of being dishonest but the gang came right over and attempted to upset that board too Nice to read your post. My power keeps going off so will send this. I almost went to the Lobster Pound last week!!

Yes Lovely, I'm a real person, (and you may not appreciate it). You see Lovely, you've said it about the same place so many times, people are sick of it. I get the lack of lobster, and the one VS two chicken breasts, I really do. I also get that people Hate to be told their favorite pace is not 100% terrific. I really do get that.

But you've said it so many times, that it gets old.

Your worst nightmare is to have me go to the Bob House and give a real, honest review. (I promise, no offense to the Bob House, never been there).

Give the crap a rest Lovely. Really.

Go to the Lobester Pound and tell Mike Ray that Steve from the Forum sent you. He's a great guy, and a fantastic host.

Default perhaps you should have sat back...

and absorbed the forum prior to flaming some of the better restaurants in our area. Instead you compared them to the BH, which, if you read this forum has had an inauspicious start at best. Slow service, an owner who went overboard on an issue, no take-out when busy.

The bottom line is that we could all find fault in any establishment we go to, however, most choose to focus on the positive where you have chosen to focus on the negative.

Well VT STEVE, I for one would love to hear what you think of any of these restaurants. Go to any of them..........Woodshed, Village Kitchen, Lemon Grass, Sam and Rosie's, Bob House, Corner House, Canoe, The North End etc etc. Go many times over many years (only been to Corner House this past time and one time years ago). Tell what you think of recent experiences. Also try to think of the restaurants around you in VT and what you would say if you went to a message board. Would they all be great? Would some have been not so great? Would there happen to be a new one? Would there be one or two that had slipped? I wish that you were near as you could really try some of these. I really do like most of the restaurants that I go to so do not know what the fuss is all about at all. I do not plan to go back to the Woodshed or Mames. All of the others are good to go. They have pluses and minuses. All some here want to do is pump some and dump some and attack anyone who does not keep with their agendas it seems to me. It also appears to me that they do not want any new places. Thus so far (although all they profess to say is only positive things) they have attacked both The Bob House and Hannafords (BOTH NEW PLACES) HMMMMMMMM???? I go to new places and give them a chance. But then again, I have nothing to fear as I am not aligned with any place. I am just telling it as I see it. Heck one grandmother who goes out to dinner with friends and visitors surely cannot make a difference in these different places. Some of what people are writing is just ridiculous. Actually funny if it were not so sad. Oh Has anyone been to the craft shops just past the Bob House? I know nothing about them. And on another matter, has anyone noticed that the dump now requires one to be there 15 minutes before closing time? It is in small print on the board. If you get there at ten minutes to 5, you may find the gate closed.

God, Lovely will you give it a break???? You are obsessed! Everyone that reads this forum knows you love the Bob House. I think it is time to stop mentioning it in every single thread. I am not going to read any of your posts any more if you don't stop and I don' think others will either. I try to keep out of these things but: Enough is enough!

Default Cheap thrill

Really...this is plain foolish.
Nadia, do you enjoy pretending to be a different person?
A retired grandmother?! Did you think that one thru? I just can't get the visual of a 67 year old woman sitting at the computer and pounding out 600/700 word posts on a regular basis. The image doesn't work.
I will admit, you dupe me for the first 4 or 5 days, but it came to me last night when I signed on, read some more of your posts, and thought "wow. This woman responds to every single post in her threads. Never let's up" and then it clicked.
Why are you doing this? Seems rather foolish to me.
The worst part is the people who believe the ruse, and were welcoming you to the forum.
You identity is now obvious, as you simply couldn't help yourself. You tried to simply stick your toe in the water, but eventually, were compelled to jump all the way back in.
My guess would be that you are now working at The Bob House. Won't they be so very pleased!

How about this? Just take a mulligan on this past week, and start fresh.
Don't try to trick unsuspecting forum members, and post like a normal person. It might work.
And please (this is the most important part), dont send me any more PMs threatening violence. Although they make for great reads, I find them inappropriate.
Get well soon....

Default Season bag limit?

Does the Fish and Game have a season bag limit for this kind of troll? Quite a number have been hooked, some pretty good with suspect bait at that. The troller must be having a good laugh!

No, she had a restaurant in Gilford called Nadia's.

see: http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/...ighlight=nadia

A few posters here have, via deductive reasoning, concluded that Lovely To See You is in fact Nadia her own self, using a sock puppet to troll the board.

"Nadia" (Carol) is/was a chef at 2 local restaurants. There were some inflamatory posts from her (and to her) last year. I just did a search and it seems those posts and the replies are gone which is probably a good thing. Those that saw the posts remember them and for those that didn't, it is just as well the posts are gone.

Nadia is her forum name, I believe I saw somewhere that her real name is Carol. I could be wrong, it has been known to happen.

You are wrong. Carol and Nadia are not the same person.

I must say this, just from a cursory reading of these posts. NADIA has stated a name for herself twice.

Once in this post.

http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/...4&postcount=29

And another, in which she says she is Nadia Bennett. She was also interviewed in some Laconia article and stated that same name, Nadia Bennett. Her space says she is only 26 years of age. According to that site, that would mean she was cooking since age 13 when she quit her job at the LP. The thread is from the LP thread earlier this year.

Very strange stuff.

VtSteve-- As I do not know "Nadia" and have only been to the trattoria maybe once or twice when it was around --

A possible answer to your dilemna Steve -- Did she get married? i.e. Bennett is her married name & Corrado is her maiden name?
The thread you referred us to was back in 2006, after all

This is becoming hilarious.
New T.V. show...NCIS Winnipesaukee.
One problem with the internet is anyone can pretend to be anything they want.

It's really time to move on. This forum is intended to discuss Lakes Region topics, not individuals.

There is another VK thread if anyone wants to post a review. This thread is now closed.

I did remove one recent post because it contained a little too much personal information. Sorry to that poster.

Please return to other topics.
