Any update on what happened specifically? Tubing too fast and just hit the water hard during a fall? Hit a hazard? Getting the information out there is important towards educating other boaters such that they don't make the same type of mistake with an even worse outcome.

I was very close to a similar CPR episode many years ago. Trying to find something that a family member/neighbor should or should not have done is twisting the knife in the wound. Leave these folks their privacy.

I'm not asking for the names of these folks involved. A simple explanation of what mistakes were made is warranted. Maybe there were no mistakes and it was just a freak accident.

It's no different than when a bad car accident happens and the reports say speed, alcohol, distracted driving whatever were a factor. Is that an invasion of privacy? Not in my mind. It's sharing of information that might prevent someone else from also getting hurt in the future

There is not a lot of new information.

The child was transported to Concord Hospital-Laconia in critical but stable condition, State Police said

Usually its driver inattention….making a wide turn and swinging into a boat or dock..Happened on Kanasatka a few years ago.Boy suffered brain damage after his uncle misjudged a turn and he hit a moored boat.
Not passing judgement…..just saying that’s usually what happens in tubing accidents

Though it's always on the driver to make sure there's plenty of room, safe distances, etc. one of the increased "Captain Bonehead" behaviors I've witnessed these last few years is people crossing through/close to tubing/skiing/anchored boats.

I posted a similar sentiment last summer or the one before—that there was an increase of people coming through the area we were using to tube—and was met with mixed responses.

Whenever I see people anchored out, wake surfing/skiing/tubing, etc. I steer clear. That's not so for a LOT of people lately.

Agreed. It's very important to discuss this and all lake accidents so that we can learn from them.

Tubing accidents are far too often caused by grossly excessive speed.

RAVE says right on their website boat speed should not exceed 20 MPH https://www.ravesports.com/blogs/lif...before-you-tow

I dont think I have ever seen anyone tow under 30 MPH. Most modern boats are not even on a clean plane until over 25 MPH. And I have never seen anyone plowing while towing a tube.

Its truly frighting to see someone towing little kids at like 35 then cut a hard turn and send them flying across the lake,,,

Hope it turns out ok for all of them :-(

As my handle would suggest, I have a Cobalt boat. It's 24' and though it's a 2005, it's not too different from a new one the same size. It's pretty easy to keep the boat on plane going 20 mph if you have trim tabs. I usually tow the kids at around 25. Maybe short bursts slightly faster only going straight. Slow around curves.

Hope the child is recovering well

Arrow That Is, REPORTED Tubing Injuries...

The last case of tubing injuries on Lake Winnipesaukee was when the operator made a sharp turn at speed and whipped the riders into docked boats!

Wow there's an awful lot of assumptions going on here. I hope the injured 17 year old is doing OK.

I echo Cobalt's post. I have a newer model Four Winns H230 and I can keep it on plane slightly below 20 mph. When I tow tubers, I try to keep my speed at 20 mph. Point is, boats can be on plane at 20 mph.
