Map of the mountains surrounding the lake

Does anyone know where I can get a map identifying the mountains / mountain ranges surrounding lake Winnipesaukee. Ultimate objective is to be able to identify which mountains/mountain ranges are what from the boat. Thanks

Mountain map

I second this request. I am constantly confused about which mountains are which when I am driving around the Lake. After 12 years of vacationing in Holderness, I realized that you can see Chocorua from Weirs Beach. I could use a good map!

Moultonboro General Store

The Moultonboro Country Store has a map room with a good selection of area maps. They should have the one of the Lakes Region that shows all the mountains and the lake.

Lots of info. is available

Check out dcr's many mountain range pictures in PhotoPost. He is an avid hiker and creator of several lakes region trail hiking maps. In many of his photos he has labeled each visible mountain peak so you can readily identify them.

I have seen the photos. But I still can't find any hiking maps of the area mountains. I tried Skelly's and the Moultonborough store. Neither had them.:(

I saw dcr's Ossipee Mountain Range trail map in the Moultonborough Country Store a couple months ago ... maybe they've sold out. The Gilford library (and possibly other libraries around the lake) sells dcr's trail maps. We bought his Belknap Mountain Range trail map there.

You raise a very good question. As a map fanatic, I know most of the area maps and charts that are available. I think the problem of finding exactly what you are asking for comes down to the issue of scale. The Lakes Region Realtors Map, for example, does a great job on the various mountains surronding the lake but a lousy job of Winnipesaukee itself. Since the distances from the lake to some of the far off mountains is so great it is impossible to combine a reasonably detailed lake chart with a map that covers an area from Gunstock to Mt. Washington.

Please let us know if you find what you are looking for.

Central Lakes Region

golden

I am looking at the map at home titled Central Lakes Region. It shows the lake and all the local mountains. The surrounding lakes are also shown. It is a topo map with contour lines, elevation and individual mountain and ranges. It also shows some trails but is not a trail map.

This map is distributed by the Lakes Region Association and copyright 1995 by Lakes Region Cartographic Inc.

I think I bought it at the Moultonborough Country Store about 8 years ago. Eastern Mountain Sports also has a lot of maps.

I hope this will help you ID all the mountains.

Panoramic

When I read the original question I interpreted it a different way. Sort of like when I was young and no matter what rest area or lake or mountain top we were on, my dad could rattle off just about every mountain name in the panoramic view. I read the question to be if their is a panoramic view of the lake with the mountains labeled from the lake view. That would be cool.

One of the easiest maps to read based on any perspective is one I got on the top of Mt Washington.I've also seen them at many other sources. It's an actual 3-d formed plastic map which isn't perfectly acurate but gives a great perspective over flat maps.

Mountains Around the Lake

I think that I've seen the map SIKSUKR is describing at The Old Country Store in Moultonboro. It is a fantastic map!

DRH is correct, DCR has an amazing gallery with lots to offer. For example, did you know what Witch Hazel looks like? Have you ever seen burl out in the woods? DCR is a very knowledgeable man and we are very lucky that he shares so much with us!

Here are some labeled shots of his that you may be interested in:
