New Use For Noodle

Last Friday I had a small child on board the boat.His face was very close to the windshield.For a little extra protection I cut a swim noodle on one side and put it over the windshield.Now if he does hit the windshield he will still have teeth.:D
Here is what it looks like.
I am going to do this when I am running in rough water by myself.I have never hit the windshield but have been close.
May even keep water that comes over the bow from coming over the windshield.
Would need to cut to open windshield.
Can I patent that?

Great idea- I may try that for protecting my trailerable cover. I have an older boat with noncurved glass so I usually lay a towel over it but this would stay in place better when covering it up!!

That's a great idea, may try that myself.

I have an unusual noodle use myself. My rear bimini cover fits kinda loosely, so I stuff two noodles in it to keep it from fluttering in the wind.

I've wondered how to keep the windshield from connecting with chins, noses and faces - My solution was restraining the person(s), adult or child. Even in calm-ish water there can be a mishap - boat comes up while chin comes down - Oops. Even when I am a passenger I sometimes like to look just over the windshield and I worry about hitting the top of the windshield. Now I'll have to prepare one of those noodles to keep on board.

How well does it stay in place on the windshield when there is a good wind or at fast or Wide Open Throttle speeds?

This fits the category of, "why didn't I/we think of that before".

Those noodles do come in handy if you have imagination. I use two pieces to spread and float my tow-line. I've seen them used on a float line, as channel markers (away from the lake), bumpers and pillows.

I used some foam pipe insulation on an older boat that had a non-curved windshield to protect the winter tarp from being torn. It worked quite well. Today's noodles are larger in diameter and should provide additional protection. I suspect that it would add years of life to a mooring cover as well.

Noodes make pretty good rollers for small boats weighing 200lbs or so...like a sailboat.....as in place two under a boat and roll the boat up onto a dock.

Well you probably could of but now the Cat's out of the bag!! :eek: On a serious not I've seen them insulate cold or warm copper piping but something that gets too hot may melt it. I'd be to concerned about some kind of fire, buy the proper insulation.

I've cut up some noodles to add more floatation in the hull of an old aluminum boat I restored.

Also, I cut one in half and use the two sections laid across my Force 5 sailboat deck as a cushion between the sailboat deck and the mast sections that I store on top of the deck.

A few years ago, we had one of the smaller soft pools in the yard. The top of it is an inflatable ring which keeps the top rim of the pool above the water line. Well, we also have a few cats, all of which have all their claws. You guessed it, pinhole city in that inflatable ring. That's when the McGuyver in me came out. I cut a hole in the ring, and slid in a couple noodles. It worked and the water stayed in the pool. We swam away, happily ever after. :D

It stays on with no problem up to about 40 mph after that I can't say.
I want to see how well it will keep water from coming over the windshield when it take water over the bow in rough water.:eek:
And yes that is using my noodle.:laugh::laugh:

I use pipe insulation on the 7/8" rail on top of my center console windshield to hold onto in rough water and also it's much warmer on cold fall days. I also use some to cushion my bimini top supports when folded for trailering.

Great idea for padding the windshield railing.

I use some pipe insulation to pad a railing that always feels too hard against my elbow when I'm using the throttle. Has anybody figured out a nice way to cover something like that?

You keep your GPS in the exact same location I keep mine. Looks to be the same unit too. :D
