Default Stonedam Island trail

Does anyone have a map of the trail? It was described in another thread saying it runs from the dock to the top of the island. I'm wondering how long it is? How steep? I have a 4 yr old and a 6 year old. they've done quite a bit of hiking already and had no problems with Red Hill and Locke's hill trails. Any advice would be appreciated.

Default your kids will have no problem..

if they can do red hill, which is much harder. I did Stonedam with my kids who were 5 and 7 at the time with no issues except for the bugs. the mosquitos were terrible.

Default Trail maps on site

Just in from the dock is a bulletin board with a trail map posted. Sometimes actually finding the start of the trail that leads to the top can be a little tricky, but if you head up to where the restroom is, you will see the blazed trees marking the trail right there and it heads off to the left (south). The shorter walk to the top is pretty gentle, and there are other short trails along the shoreline that are really pretty. Enjoy! And bring your bug repellent.

Default Stonedam Island Signs

I didn't get a shot of the trail map but here are some other signs on Stonedam that may be helpful.

I second Kenny's suggestion about the bug repellent. I've been chased off the island a few times by vicious mosquitoes.

You know I never read that sign before. The key section being:

Members:

Year Round Dawn to Dusk

General Public:

Independence Day Weekend to Labor Day, Weekends and Holidays only.

I guess I was tresspassing every time I went on the island. I've never been able to get a dock on a weekend. I'll remember this the next time the LRCT asks for money to preserve land for everyone.

Default Last one in is a rotten egg!

Don't forget that there is a cool beach on the Weirs side of the island with a great tree for jumping off of and rocks for throwing! Have FUN!
