Former Meredith/Nashua resident here moved to Florida back in '18. We will be headed North for 3 weeks this weekend and Pop's is on my radar. Nothing like Pop's down here in the Tampa Bay area!

We went to Pop's on Sunday. The line was normal, about 8 - 10 ahead of us. we got the lobster rolls to eat on the boat and they were, as always, great.

It would be nice if things moved a little faster both in the order process and how fast the food comes out but I think they are limited by the size of the building. No sense messing with success.

It's all good. We keep going back!

So you waited for 8 to 10 in front of you? I've been waiting for over a year to get some of Pop's fried goodness! I'll be there in a couple weeks!

I was just there Monday and thought the complete opposite—that they're fast and efficient and I'm never frustrated by the wait...even on the busiest days.

Our outing was, again, perfect! (Though if I had my druthers, I'd trade a few haddock nuggets off the seafood plate for a few more clams/shrimps/scallops).

Made our annual boat trip with grandkids today. Food excellent as usual. However, I forgot they only do CASH ONLY. When I checked their web site, there is zero mention of the CASH ONLY item. It would make sense for them to at least have a warning on their website in bold print.

I used to hate the cash only thing, but so many banks refund ATM fees these days that as long as the establishment has an ATM and is good enough, no biggie.

Pop's is absolutely good enough.

Default Pop's to go

Picked up a some Pops "to go" for dinner on Thursday with a neighbor.
Usually go by boat which we love but, the weather was iffy so we drove there and brought it back to the island. (yes....I dipped a little on the ride back)

Wife and I split a Fisherman's Plate and a large O ring. Barely made it through the Fisherman's plate but didn't even get close to touching the Orings. Saved them and heated them in the oven with burgers the next day.

Damn I love that place crooked roof and all

I’m guessing you’re on a bridged or causewayed island? (I hope so!)

Bad guess. The profile says "Sleepers Island". I wish more posters would fill in the profile as it would make a lot more posts make a lot more sense.

Pop's hasn't announced it yet but my guess is that they may be closing for the season on Monday, September 2nd, 2024. Note this is ONLY a guess.

Get you fill while you still can.....

Went for a clam and scallop boat this past weekend, fantastic as always! I did notice that the clams seemed to be a little smaller in overall size than usual, still better than anyone else though. We usually go twice per season, spring and late summer, so this was likely our last trip for this year.

Has anyone happened to duplicate their tartar sauce?? Theirs is my favorite of any place I've had. I'd love to be able to make it myself during the winter when I can't get the real deal.. ice crappies and pop's tartar sauce?!? Mmmmm

Small clams are way better than large in my opinion. Large clams have big muddy bellies and necks are very tough. When I was in business we actually paid more to get small clams from Canadian fisheries. They are are more crispy, tender and flavorful

I agree! Small clams are better. We've been to Pops once and the one thing I didn't like were the big clams. And it was a long drive from Meredith Neck. We really like Red Hill Dari and it's a lot closer. We also like the Bobhouse seafood but they don't have clams.

We did the clam and lobster roll plate a few weeks ago. It was over the top! The lobster roll was huge, spilling over the roll. Well done!

Interesting point. At other places, is there a way to tell in advance whether they're serving large or small? I feel like a waiter or counter server is unlikely to know definitively.

Descant, as a fellow Merrimackian I'm sure you'll agree that the Lobster Boat is as good as anyone. And they usually have small clams.

I, too, am a Merrimackian, but I totally disagree on the Lobster Boat. Each time I've been, I've been disappointed. And the building feels soooo greasy.

I feel badly because my neighbor is one of the long-term cooks, but it's just meh.

Now, The Old Salt? Perfecto. Pop's, yup! Dockside and The Bob House? Bring it on!

Woodman's? NOPE. That place is criminal.

Agree on the Old Salt. We had the King Neptune twice but we needed four people to eat all the food. Sorry you don't like the Lobster Boat. If you don't like the feel then you probably don't like Georges in Meredith. Both have the same feel but we frequent both places. For us both offer good food at good prices.

Oh, I forgot George's! That place is a steal—seafood platter under $30 = crazy deal.

George's doesn't feel as dark, dingy, or greasy as the Lobster Boat; the people are nicer; and the food has been way better.

That Neptune's Platter at The Old Salt = LEGIT.

Have been trying to get to Pop's all summer and finally decided to make the 32 mile trip today.

I parked right in front. Close enough to read the sign...

"CLOSED FOR THE DAY DUE TO FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL"

Although, probably the best clams around. There are other perfectly acceptable alternatives.

It'll be a while before I may consider driving that distance again and find them closed due to ?.

Your kids became my problem. Not a good way to do business.

We had lunch at George's today. We just had sandwiches but the people next to us had seafood platters and they looked really good. We try to hit the all you can eat fish fry and the fish is always fresh. While waiting for our food we noticed that they're getting a little worn and need a good cleaning and some fresh paint.

Yup, that's George's. I've had their fried clams. I like George's. But not their clams.

I've had great clams at Weathervane, Lobster-in-the-Rough, at The Weirs; And you can go by boat. Haven't been lately since they were closed during COVID.

Just had Pop's for (probably) the last time of the season. What an awesome place—super consistent, reasonably priced, and LARGE.

Clam bellies were mostly small today, though I don't have a preference at all...as long as they're crispy!

I've had great clams at Weathervane, Lobster-in-the-Rough, at The Weirs; And you can go by boat. Haven't been lately since they were closed during COVID.
We went to the weathervane at the weirs last week. I wanted a seafood platter but they wanted $8.50 for whole belly clams on top of the $39.95 for the platter with strips. I passed and had haddock. George's haddock is much better.

Clam bellies were mostly small today, though I don't have a preference at all...as long as they're crispy!
