Default Nascar Races

Looks like a big race this Sunday starting at 1:30. Any ideas on when the traffic will get bad going home south on rt 93?

Cool

I would not leave later than 3:00. it can get very very bad.
you want to leave at least a 1/2 hour before the end of the race. I'm not sure how long a 300 lap race last.

I believe the races typically end around 5 or 6 pm. I think they start the lane closures on I-93 North at 3pm.

I came through Concord around 7 after July's race which was when all the traffic was coming from 106.I was very surprized to average 50+ mph right to the tollbooth.I ended up heading south in the northbound which seemed to be faster the the southbound lane.Definately stay away from 106 though.I'll be at the track Sunday for the race but I always wait a good 1 1/2 hours before leaving to head south.

I try to avoid the time between 5:00 and 6:30. If I'm really worried, I'll go out through Alton Bay and down Rt28 to Manchester. I did get stuck once in the southbound lane on the northbound side. It wasn't too bad.

Default Traffic Report

I have often wondered how long it would take to clear out 100,000 people, with a big race ending about 4pm. Last night the southbound Rt 93 detour was still in place at 9:30pm, but traffic moved well until just before the rest area. From there to the toll booth it was backed up and slow, but opened up after the toll. Maybe another 30 minutes would clear out the toll booth backup. So, about 6 hours to clear out the race fans.
It was a great day to stay at the lake late and miss most of the traffic. There won't be many of those weekends left this year!

Default Update WOW!!

Well,I was at the speedway yesterday and was a little surprized at the traffic.First,I left from Manchester at 7:45 and decided to try coming in fron the north for a change.I exited at Tilton(20) and headed over rt 140 to Belmont, then down 106 to the south entrance.Traffic was steady but moved real smooth. No problems at all.I usually wait a couple hours after the race for the traffic to thin out and then head out.I was in the reserved RV which overlooks the track.Great place by the way cuz you can barbecue and make cocktails while watching the race.We watched the Patriots game and I waited till 8:00 when the the place looked pretty empty. When I reached 106 south there was a steady stream of 3 lanes heading out.But it moved right along. As Island-Ho said the only backup was just before the rest area and that only took about 7-8 minutes to get to the tollbooth. After that, clear sailing to Manch.
I lost my phone at my friends RV site and he found it so I headed up to the track this morning to get it.I was very surprized by the number of Rv's headed south on 93 at 9:30am.When I got to 106 I was even more surprized to see that the same 3 lane south configuration was still setup. And a nonstop caravan of RV's still coming out at 10:30.When I finally reached the track I was amazed to still see what seemed like thousands of RV's still yet to leave. What a mass of humanity camps at this event.Even though I have been many times before,I was struck by the enormity of the parking and RV areas behind the track. What a production that event is to coordinate all there is to staging that race.WOW!

Default This was our 2nd trip to Loudon

We came down from Meredith. We left at 10;30 am and went straight thru Rte 106 no traffic at all. We have found a solution to the parking dilema at Loudon it is called a Harley Davidson. There is a separate lot directly across from the ticket booth- main entrance- it is the easiest in -easiest out we could imagine. We left the track when the race concluded... 10 minutes out the front gate and took a right passed all the buses directly back to Meredith thru Laconia. We were back in Meredith at 5:15... we expected alot more traffic than we encountered. But having the bike lot near the front gate is so simple. I was also amazed with the maze of parking lots that are involved at Loudon. They do seem to have it down to a science. But moving 100,000 people can never be simple. What a site it was. A sea of humanity all heading in two directions. Thankfully most of them were going in the opposite direction from us. The only scary part was being on a bike surrounded by people in cars who had been drinking wagons full of beer all afternoon. We saw some real bone head moves on the road and in the stands. But thankfully they werent near us. Only sporting event I have ever been to that every single adult can bring in a 19in cooler stocked with alcohol. The weather was great - the race was exciting and hopefully everyone got home safely.

On both Saturday evening and especially Sunday morning, did anyone notice the blue and white helicopter that I'm guessing was shuttling guests back and forth from Loudon to the Bahre mansion over in East Alton? Anyone else notice this copter at the racetrack or over the lake? McD

I didn't notice the color of the copters, but I knew the race was over when a bunch of copters landed at Laconia Airport and then a bunch of jets took off. I waited until the Patriots game was over then headed south via Tilton and rt 93. Like Island-ho, I made pretty good time. A little stop and go were rt 393 comes in and a little more north of the rest area down to the Hookset tolls. Once I navigated through the crazy toll lane changers, easy-pass was wide open. People really have a hard time figuring out which lane to use. It was smooth sailing after the toll booth.
