Default Mountain View Grand Resort and Spa

We decided to take this beautiful afternoon off after working hard, and drove up 93N through Franconia Notch, took exit 35 and wound up at the Mountain View Resort in Whitefield. This resort has been beautifully restored and overlooks some breathtaking mountain views. We sat on the expansive open porch, then ventured into a beautiful formal dining room. We were early and so had the place to ourselves for a while. Both of us were seated so that we could take in the early evening beauty of the scenery and the room. The menu offered lots of selections, priced from $22 to $36. We chose the filet and crab cake combination ($30), served with bearnaise, asparagas, and fancy fluted mashed potatoes. They started us off with a melba round with boursin and lobster (no extra charge), hot rolls with butter balls, then a lemon-ginger sorbet to "cleanse the palate", followed by one of the most delicious and elegant dinners we have ever had! If you want to spend a wonderful day about 1.5 hours from the Lakes Region, it's a beautiful ride this time of year and the dinner itself was well worth the ride! Leave the sneakers and jeans at home...also the baseball cap turned backwards.....you want to be casually but nicely dressed. There were people of all ages there, even some small children, but all were well behaved. Do yourselves a favor....this place is great! Just our opinions, of course.

Mountain View Grand ia a great place. I have stayed there while working and have had company sponsered dinner programs at the resort. The pool water has always been the perfect temperature also.

Default what a gem

We went to a wedding at the Mountain View Grand a couple of years ago and fell in love - what an incredible place! You can feel the history of the place as you walk around and see so much of the original woodwork, the cool elevator, it's really breathtaking. If you sign up to get their emails, you can get a good special now and then.

I found this review or Mountain View Grand Resort extremely helpful Sue Doe-Nym. After reading where Mountain View Grand Resort was located and directions on how to get there with routes and exits and the distance from the Lakes Region, my mouth was watering when I read the description of your eating experience. The food sounds delicious. I know how much it costs and what to wear and what the grounds, views and building is like. Wow. You should be a restaurant reviewer for a second career!!! Definitely will make a note of it and try to get there some time when I have guests. Thank you very much.

Default great place

We stayed here several years back, at a two night restaurant/hospitality convention. It was the second year after they had re-opened after being closed for many many years.
It was mid-January, and I remember the temp. when we arrived was -11. Bone chilling.
Anyway..great, old school service. Attention to detail was unreal. There was actually an elevator attendant, in the very old (but restored) elevator...which is good. Because you would never know how to work the thing. No push buttons here...some type of old crank.
At that time, there was some real concern on their part as to whether or not the owners would ever get a return on their substancial investment. The place was really let go, and in complete disrepair when they bought it.
If you go, be sure to check out the large collection of "before" and "after" pictures in the lobby, and to take the time to read about the history of this once great hotel. It is indeed fascinating.
I enjoyed it as much as the previous year's convention, which was at the Mount Washington Resort. Found the service to be right on par with them.
Really in the middle of nowhere, but a fun place to be.
They have a 9 hole golf course, by the way.
Sue Do-Nym...thanks for bringing this memory back!
