Default Vessel Safety Checks 6-23 Town Docks

This Saturday 6-23 from 0800-1200, the Lakes Region Sail and Power Squadron will be offering free vessel safety check at the following Town Docks:

Wolfeboro (I'll be at Wolfeboro and hope to see some of you (even if you don't want an inspection))
Alton
The Weirs

From the LRSPS.org website:

"A Vessel Safety Check is a free and confidential check of your boat's safety equipment for compliance with federal, state and local requirements. Some of the items checked are:

Proper Display of Numbers
Registration/Documentation
Life Jackets
Visual Distress Signals (flares)
Fire Extinguishers
Ventilation (blower)
Backfire Flame Control
Sound Producing Devices (horn, bell)
Navigation Lights
State & Local Requirements
Overall Vessel Condition

During the Vessel Safety Check, you can talk with the vessel examiner about the use of marine safety equipment, get information on various federal, state, and local regulations, review local boating conditions, and ask boating-related safety questions. The vessel examiner will encourage you to take advanced boating courses and will tell you about the USPSŪ boater education program. Some of the topics you can discuss with the vessel examiner include:

Accident Reporting
Charts and Aids
Survival Tips
Fueling/Fuel Management
Float Plans
Weather and Sea Conditions
Safe Boating Classes "

Vitabene, any insight on how many vessels had safety issues and what the more prevelant issues were? It would be interesting to know what areas need the most education.

The majority that I did passed. One did not have registration with them (we have to check documentation). After that it is usually lighting.

I will check with the other vessel examiners.

Thanks for the info on the safety inspections. I wanted to come by, but didn't get away from my slip at all this weekend.

I printed out the calendar pages showing the locations of the inspections, but no hours were printed on the calendar. You may want to have the webmaster fix that!

I hope to make the next one!

Thanks again!

Ooops! I stand corrected!

Snooping around on the web site I found one page that mentions the time, unfortunately this page is for 2011

http://lrsps.org/VSCschedule.htm

It would be good to have this also listed on the calendar section too. Perhaps I'm slow, but I checked this website 5 times and this is the first time I stumbled on the time of day for the safety checks.

Thanks again for mentioning it to me. I may try to make the next one that is scheduled at Fay's.

Is there an updated schedule somewhere? We purchased a boat a few weeks ago but have not yet had it in the water. I would be interested in getting a safety check.
