Default I use Dropcam

https://www.dropcam.com/ - These cameras rely on your wireless network and do take some bandwidth but they work great... Good iphone/android app to allow you to view your camera remotely and to alert you for motion and/or sound. If you want to retain a history you can optionally pay dropcam a monthly fee ($10-$12?) and they will store 10+- days of history.

ADT has a system calked ADT Pulse. You can control your alarm, cameras, lights and thermostat remotely from your pc or phone. We have had the system for 6 months and love it. We have a camera on the waterfront and interior. We turn the heat up the morning we are coming up and every time the alarm is turned on or off I get an email. As well if the temp falls below a preset number the system sends me an email. it's great piece of mind.

Default Loss of Cable

Meredith Weekender: What happens when your cable goes down? I imagine you lose your communications. Do they reset when the cable comes back on? Cable seems to be off more than it is on when the weather gets bad.

When the cable / internet goes down all remote capabilities do go down. When the cable/internet service comes back , the sytstem resets the remote capabilities. The alarm still works via cellular back-up. Not sure if there is an option for wireless internet.

Default Pulse

MW, In round numbers can you give an idea of the cost (including any goofy fees and taxes? Kudos to you on the cell backup.

$49.95 per month (soup to nuts) for the full package. The full package is alarm, lights, cameras, thermostat). If you take away some of the options it is less.

I looked into the pulse system at home. Their cameras were glorified nanny cams that plug into ac outlets.

A-Plus does our security and they are absolutely the best. High-quality gear and great service. What else can anyone need?

Default Where can one buy in this area.

I spent 20 years in the electronics industry before leaving it to start my business, so I believe I may have the ability to install and set up my own service.
What I would like to know is where I can buy the equipment in this area.
I may be wrong but all the replies seem to be tailored around paying someone else to do the work which may be the case but being extremely handy I would like to determine this before I figure out if I can afford paying someone else to do it for me.

BR,

I do not know if A-Plus will sell gear only. I know that B&H has a lot of gear on-line. Great place to go to just to see the options, capabilities and the costs.

Here is a link: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/browse...6/N/4293342959

I have A-Plus in NH. I did the house in Ma and the condo in FL myself with gear from B&H. It is all fairly straight forward.

Good luck!

Thank you for the info. I figure I'd give it a go myself, then if I need to pay someone I will.
Money is tight this time of year.

The Zmodo gear is reasonably priced and available online. When my installer consistently fell down on me I worked through it myself. Tech Support at Zmodo can log into your PC/home network and set everything up remotely if you are having problems. My issues pertained to remote access, which was worked through no problem. The local stuff is easy.

Have you or anyone else heard anything good/bad about the place on Paugus Bay. I just noticed it driving buy tonight and almost turned around.
I believe it was Total Security.

I haven't been by that way. I did get a quote from someone in that area but would have to look back to find out who. It was pricey for sure. If you can handle running the wiring the networking side is easy. For us it was difficult as being on an island we were limited on time we could get our guy out to work on it. His baby was due at any time (seemed like his fiancée was 9+ months pregnant for 3 months) so it was tough pinning him down to finish.

I think it was bill from total that quoted us originally.

B.R.;

My business partner just had an entire system put in at his house from Total Security. He was totally impressed with the finished product and the professionalism of the workers.

As an fyi, my business partner has a beautiful home, is a very picky person and we are in the trades so he knows quality workmanship and what to look for. I would trust his recommendation.
