Default Tonights moon....

Pretty bright out there. Neat to watch the clouds go by it too.

Default minor eclipse tomorrow

The penumbral lunar eclipse on October 18. It will be visible from the eastern half of North America, as well as South America, Europe, Africa, and portions of western Asia. The Full Moon will pass through the outer edge (penumbra) of Earth's shadow, and there should be a noticeable dimming of its disk. However, it will not enter the dark umbra of Earth's shadow as it does during a total lunar eclipse. The middle of the eclipse occurs at 7:50 pm EDT.

I have owned a canon SX20IS and then bought a Canon SX50HS.
It is pretty amazing how the telephoto length of that Canon camera is for what is basically a point and shoot in auto mode. Of course there are many settings on the camera but this was done using a Custom setting to dim it down a bit or it would over expose with this much light coming in.

http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consum...ershot_sx50_hs

Here is an example.....See the little dot on the horizon.....

Here it is....

This is a great camera for wildlife as it is very quiet as well.

Great lunar shot! What camera and glass do you use? I shoot with a Canon 60D but have not tried any shots of the moon.

I have read many reports on what a great, versatile camera that is. I can see you get good results with it.

I have a couple other cameras that are much more expensive, and yet this one is so easy to use, it is the one I always have with me. My old SX20IS is in the other car.....

There is one on craigslist right now, but I have not checked store prices to compare it with yet...

Yep. A lot of people don;t know that there is a name for the full moon in every month of the year. Most know the Hunter moon in October or the Harvest moon in Sept.
So here is a list of the names of all the full moons.

http://www.farmersalmanac.com/full-moon-names/

Oh there is the blue moon (When there is an extra full moon during the year.) and red moon, (When atmospheric conditions turn the moon red, or in Christianity it signals "the end"!) as well.....

Default Hunters Moon 2013

Couple of shots..

This image is a "composite" (aka - FAKE!) lol The "real Moon" was exactly were you see it in this picture, but I didn't like the way it looked, so I took another shot from that same spot of just the moon and replaced the orginal blurry one. The building you see is the Rowe House in Gilford Village. That building has seen a lot of moon rises!

I used a flash light to illuminate the chimney on the Rowe House

Now this one is real! This was taken of the Full moon "setting" on 10-19-13.
I took this from the Governors Island Bridge. The moon set and the sun rose at about the same time, it was strange to be able to shoot the moon and turn around and shoot the sunrise. You can see the sun just starting to get to the front of the house and dock.

From Wikipedia: "A blue moon is an extra full moon that appears in a subdivision of a year, either the third of four full moons in a season or, recently, a second full moon in a month of the common calendar."

Nice ones. Nice touch swapping moons! Try that with film! Don't you just love digital? (and digital editing?) I like Elements 9, Photomatix (for HDR), Paint Shop Pro Photo 2, and Picasa. Not very accomplished but is amazing and fun what can be done. I really should get out and practice some night shots.

Night shot are fun, but you really have to have patience.. which I'm not very good at!

The other thing is a tripod, most of the shots are longer exposure and a tripod keeps the "shakes" away.

I understand there is going to be a partial eclipse of the sun on Sunday morning. Remember to set your clocks back though Saturday night.

Yes a tripod is a must for most night shooting. That said however, that moon shot I took did not use a tripod. One of the things I love about that camera. The image stabilization is amazing.
