Default Th Wine'ing Butcher

What is going on at the Butcher? We just got back in town and found prices have skyrocketed and very few friendly faces we recognize. What happened to Tom and Deb? We always looked forward to seeing them and the kids who work there...not to mention how the prices have gone beyond our budget!

Being that wholesale steak prices are dropping, if they have not lowered accordingly with the market they are gouging people.

You can get BETTER tips at Hannafords for way less money. Try Hannafords "black teriyaki tips", they are great and a lot less money!

Better yet, go to Sam's Club and buy their tip meat and marinate yourself. Tough to beat Sam's prices and quality on their meats.

Yes, same at BJs. Marinate the entire strip, grill it whole then cut it up

I'm not a real frugal guy but I started thinking about these pre marinated steak tips. Most you find now are either injected or vacuumed with the marinade. You can tell how wet they are compared to plain tips. The prices seem to be more per pound and on top of that your paying 8-12 or more $/lb for the marinade. I'm doing my own now.

Ant not just that, but you don't know how long they have been sitting in the marinade and'or the meat case.
I'm with you on marinating my own.

Plus the commercial marinades are filled with sugar, HFCS, fake coloring and flavor. So much easier, healthier and tastier to do your own marinade for steak tips. Especially with steak since you can let it sit 24 hours and really let it soak up the marinade. A little soy sauce, some brown sugar, rice wine vinegar, pineapple juice and let it sit overnight...

I agree - Wining Butcher's quality has tanked. Prices are also getting crazy.

I bought some of this marinade on Amazon and used it to marinate steak tips. Flavor is excellent.

Keep in mind that they have to sell through the stock that they paid at a higher price first before lowering, typical business tactic unfortunately, but in my mind lower it and sell more!!

The Wining Butcher's target customer segment is the convenience crowd and those willing to pay a premium for prepared quality items, be it meat, fish, desserts or other ready made dishes. Hannafords also has a good butcher shop and it's nice to have a couple alternatives - the BJs crowd is clearly a different crowd willingly to put more time into prep and save a few bucks. The Lakes Region is fortunate to have options like the Wining Butcher for such a seasonal area and it certainly seems to be a very busy place, as with prior summers.

Their prices have not declined with the market though.

These types of places don't carry weeks worth of inventory, their stock rolls over every few days. Last time I checked meat goes bad after a while.

We had tips from the butcher shop at Fiddleheads in Alton last weekend, they were $10.99 and were excellent.

That's an off-the-wall price ! Wow. I stopped going there several years ago as I noticed a decline in the quality of the meats.
