Did anyone see the chase up Alton Bay?
Did anyone see the chase up Alton Bay at dusk last night? A boater with no lights was being chased by a Marine Patrol boat and when I lost sight of him, the boater was gaining distance and Marine Patrol was clearly not able to keep up...
Wondering if MP ever caught him? |

Anyone know if MP has any night vision equipment?
The other question would be if the boat in question even knew MP was behind them. |

Can't outrun the radio
We saw the start of it. The MP wasn't trying to go very fast, IMO. Besides, as one officer told me when I asked how fast his boat could actually go: "Doesn't matter. No one can outrun the radio". So, I imagine they caught up with the perp sooner or later.

Made it to Sleepers...
We saw the chase move from Sleeper's Island to Smith Point before we lost sight. The MP only seemed to be a couple hundred yards behind the boat. A second MP boat chased after them a couple minutes later...

Probably like most of the small towns in NH
Nothing better to do, so they join in on a high speed chase to deal with the menotoney |

I know for a fact that most of the MP boats have FLIR (forward looking infra red) cameras and radar...I doubt they got very far...Even if the boat beat the MP in a line of sight situation by ducking in somewhere, the MP boat would still track him on the radar...

I can only think of three reasons a 'logical' person might run from MP. First, it is a stolen boat. They are almost caught in chase so run, ditch the boat and run away on foot. Second, they have been drinking and plan to quickly park the boat and get lost for a while before getting caught DUI. Third, there is a warrant out for their arrest and they think they can duck in some where and get away on foot or by car.
Most people must realize they are not going to get away with their boat from MP in chase. |

Could be that the MP backed off a bit so the situation did not get out of hand and turn into an all out full throttle chase at dusk on the lake. I've heard that the police will do that if they feel as though the public's safety could be jeopardized and like it has already been mentioned you can't out run a radio.
Would be interesting to hear what started the whole thing... somebody has to have some dirt on what happened! |
