Default NO Superbowl for DirectTV?

What? I am reading on WMUR about Ms Shaheen asking the FCC to intercede in the negotiations between DirectTV and the owners of the channel (I think WHDH) that will show the Superbowl, because MA and "southern NH" are not part of the deal... WHAT??

Sunbeam communications-who owns channel 7 out of Boston (and also a Fox station in Miami) has asked for a 300% increase-at least according to Direct TV. Since Direct TV said no to this, Sunbeam pulled these stations off of Direct TV.

If you live far away from Boston in an area where they say you cannot get the over the air signal-like here in the Lakes region-Direct TV has been given approval to give us the NY NBC-we have had it since Sunbeam pullled the signal. So for those of us in the Lakes region, this is not a problem-we have pretty much had an NBC all along without interruption.

For those in Mass and Southern NH, it would not surprise me that if this is not resolved by Superbowl Sunday that at least Sunbeam may allow the Superbowl to come through. They did allow some NFC football playoff games and I believe local news to go through on the Miami Fox.

The sad thing for some people is it all depends on location and distance from Boston and also if the FCC thinks you should be able to get the signal. Just because the FCC says you can get a signal with an antenna does not make it true. Manchester is split depending on where you live-some people in Manchester currently have no NBC and some have the NY NBC.

I know some people are getting NBC out of New York on channel 392.

Ya'll can come down to Connecticut (Deep south New England) to watch the game with us Southerners. Of course that means that ya'll will be watch'n with us Giants fans.

Angry amazing!

While Sunbeam and DirecTV are fighting over this I am paying for a service that I am not getting. There has not been a reduction in my bill based upon this and both companies are holding their customers hostage to the whole thing. If they block the Superbowl I think that there will be massive backlash. I spend a lot of money each month with DirecTV. I am starting to ask myself, "why?"

Default Pawn for DirectTV

My huasband told me last night that we do get the NBC feed, amen. Since I don't set up the DVR for the sports events, I was unaware of that. At the same time, we are being pawns for DirectTV in their negotiations with Sunbeam - and as stated above, some are clearly not getting what they are paying for - that's not acceptable customer service.

from what I have read and heard, it seems to me that Sunbeam is the one holding people hostage and what they are asking for is extremly unrealistic.

not that I am defending DirecTV, but if you were a store and one of your vendors wanted to increase prices way beyond what you could sell the product for, would you continue to sell it?

With that being said, there should be some compensation coming from DirecTV, and if I were a customer of theirs, I would call and ask for some credit

Default Seems like two options

Solution seems to be fairly simple. DirectTV says no to Sunbeam's insistance on a 300% increase; or DirectTV says yes to Sunbeam's insistance and then passes on the charge to it's customers. Of course, the latter choice would probably start a whole new thread.

It almost seems that the point of negotiation has passed.

Default No thanks

I'd rather they stand their ground. Channel 9 is the local station anyways and you can always get channel 7 news on line if need be.
Besides there are plenty of places to go if someone really wants to see the game.
For us it's the best time to go snowmobiling, the trails are all empty as people rush home to see the game.

Default Wmtw - 8

While Channel 9 consider themselves the de facto NH channel, most of us in the North Country that grew up watching WMTW consider channel 8 the de facto channel of the North Country.

There was a big stink when Channel 9 request Channel 8 to discontinue braodcasting off Mt Washington in northern NH. Channel 9 has lousy reception in that area. Somehow the powers to be provide WMTW in Satelite and northern cable service.

I never did care for Channel 7 broadcast. I love NBC channel 6 out of Maine. However Metrocast decided to pull channel 6 as of Jan 31 because 7 is an NBC affiliate. I beg to differ as the quality of saturday morning kid shows on Channel 6 is the best other than QUBO. QUBO was discontinued Jan 1. This will be a sad year for quality children broadcasting.

I'm hoping the advertisers and sponsors will see a huge drop in sales. Then the TV stations will follow the money.

Default Mixed emotions

In the first 18 channels with Metrocast, we have channel 12 that is all Metrocast "stuff", NECN - ok, Fox 25 out of Boston - ok, Ch 56 Bos - ok, TBS - Atlanta - ok, and then HSN, Ch 38 and METV Bos filling out the 18, as far as single networks are concerned.

We have 2 PBS stations but they seldom have the same programming. But we have 2 NBC chs - one in Bos and one in ME. We have 3 ABC chs -one each in NH ME BOS. We have 2 CBS ch - ME and BOS. Most programming is the same, and hardly worthwhile.

Redundancy in power is a good thing, redundancy in critical controls on an airplane are good things, but redundancy in TV channels, not so much.

Unfortunately, it seems to be the nature of the beast.

Default Downfall to Direct TV

We really miss WMTW and NECN, the rest are about as accurate as tossing a coin to get the weather correct. Those two consistently had the most accurate forecast.
I though I might, but I really don’t miss not having channel 7 at all.
All ABC, CBS and NBC are is those ridiculous reality shows and sitcoms.
I’ll take discovery channel, National Geography and even sci-fi over 4, 5 or 7 and day.
I made the change to Direct without my wife knowing but when she saw all the extra channels we got and even saved on our monthly bill she was pleasantly surprised.
The surprising thing was that even dropping the metrocast package and just keeping internet we still pay less then we did before the switch.

Default WHDH Back on Direct TV

Just got an email from a friend at WHDH. The dispute with Direct TV has been resolved and both WHDH 7 and WLVI 56 are back on Direct TV. So the Super Bowl has been saved!

Go Pats!!!!!!

WHAT? You don't like shrimp cocktail pre-game noshs?
`
Kick off Nachos with cheese and wild truffle sauce?

Half time fillet mignon burgers between toasted focchia breads?

AND the best of all: Sobering K-cup coffees served up until you realize that you have lost! AGAIN!
