Default Breakfast woes

Everybody seems to be focused on The Fine Italian cuisine threads right now but I thought I'd get my "licks" in on a recent breakfast experience. One thing I love about the lake is being able to get to so many places to eat by boat. I like to go over to Meredith for breakfast 3-4 times a summer, usually at Sunshine & Pa's...not anymore. Its time for me to be a negative critic now. Are they under new management? The entire staff looked like they just came from a Jerry Springer appearance. The waitress had the personality of a rock bass. I saw her pick up her tip at the table next to mine (it looks like the family of four left her with approx. $1.37). She shook her head like she could'nt beleive someone would only leave that much. I could see why though. when I asked for more butter she sighed. It was not crowded at all so she couldn't have been under too much stress. When I was done she just put the bill on the table and walked away without saying anything, Like thank you or have a nice day.
Its funny because when I got there I noticed there wasn't a line but there was one at Georges.
By the way, I over tipped. I left $1.38.

Default Breakfast woes

This has been like that most of the summer.I thought I hit it on an off day,but waitress had dirty fingernails, coughing, and wiping her nose with her hand. The kitchen help wasn't much better.Haven't been back since early June.

Shania, that is truly awful. There's no excuse for that. I was at a breakfest resteraunt recently and watched the waitress take the plates down from the line area, prep them with whatever condiments, lick her fingers loudly making smacking noises, and then proceed to deliver them. This is in clear view of the customers...

GTO, how dare you ask for butter when she's not busy? Who do you think you are?

Well maybe Patty should untie "Pa" and let him out of the closet because with waitresses with attitude, it could cost them alot of business. (what a great name for a movie, "Waitresses With Attitude") Coming to a breakfast shop near you. Starring _________________.

Default good choices to eat with no attitudes

The places I have tried and recommend for breakfast:

1 Ames Farm Inn - yes I know they are closed to Memorial Day 2007

2. Lakeside Dinner - under the Gilford Condos

3. Donna Jean's - very good and resonable pricing

4. Paugus Bay Dinner - next to the Sunoco station on Union Ave.

5. Kellerhaus- Very good waffle breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays from 8am-12 noon

These places have very good food and I reccomend them to anyone since these are the places I frequently eat at when I was in the Lakes Region this past summer.

Old Bay Diner in Alton Bay, good food and service...small with limited seating...next to the old Alton Bay Pavillion, so it's accessable by boat.

Up on the north part of the lake we like the Village Kitchen; Georges; Sam and Rosie's; and Kevin's for breakfast.

Default Paugus Bay Diner

Back in the mid 1990's when I journeyed North to the Lake every weekend in the Summer, I always made it a point to eat at both the Tilton Diner and The Paugus Bay Diner. When I get in the vicinity of Meredith, and it is mealtime, I make a jaunt to George's Diner. As you can see, I love Diner food

Paugus Bay makes a terriffic Denver Omelette, and the Shepard's Pie is great at the Tilton Diner.

I probably ate there 6 or 7 Sunday mornings this summer.McDude,I believe smoking is only allowed in the diner car itself.I think the other larger room that is attached is non smoking.

Default Paugus Diner and Smoking

McDude:

As mentioned in my previous posting in this thread, I use to frequent the Paugus Diner every Sunday Morning in the Summer when I was staying on my boat at Fays. I had not been there in 6 or 7 years when I went in there for breakfast on my first trip to the Lakes Region in years this past August. I was not disappointed. The same middle aged blonde lady was still waiting on customers at the counter, and the Denver Omelette was superb. I did notice that the grille was quite a bit longer allowing the short-order cook more space in order to speed up the cooking and serving process.

On this last trip, I didn't notice anyone smoking in my immediate vacinity. That use to really bug me in diners, when a smoker would lite up sitting alongside you, and you just received your food order. In Connecticut we don't have a problem with this, for there is no smoking in restaurants, just in private clubs and the casinos. I guess in the land of LIVE FREE OR DIE, they wouldn't regulate smoking in public places??**

Car Guy - I love the IDEA of the Tilton Diner - but last week my wife and I went there, and there was months of heavy DUST BUNNIES on top of the 20-foot guitar hanging from the main ceiling. Watch out for falling dust in your Shepherd's Pie. (The food was OK, nothing exceptional, but the coffee seemed real weak...)

SS, that's 6-7 more than I've managed this year, much to my dismay -- only been up twice for day trips. Columbus Day weekend may be a different story, however -- keeping fingers crossed!

McD, last I knew you are correct -- I always prefer the larger room simply for that reason, although we have been there when there was no(body) smoking in the diner car itself!

I've never been to this restaurant, but there is nothing I hate more than crummy service anywhere. I would not allow my employees to act like that if I owned a restaurant. My favorite breakfast spot is the Country Kitchen, or is it Village Kitchen in Moultonborough. I love snowmobiling over there before a busy day of ice fishing.

Default Owl's Nest in West Alton

Fantastic Breakfast! They serve lunch too, sit down and to go everything. You can get there by boat. (Ames farm cove) Just renovated last summer, so it looks great. French toast with homemade bread is to die for!

Thumbs up Big Donna Jean's Fan

I must say, I love Donna Jean's - the Winnipesaukee Benedict is AWESOME!!!

The eggs are always poached just right, the muffins are toasted lightly, the virginia ham is tender and their Hollandaise sauce is just lemony enough to be tasty without being overpowering!

I love their hash too and I can even get there on the Jet Ski if I want as parking can be a nightmare.

Joann -- Donna Jean's is that Bright Yellowish building right around the corner from the Wiers Channel bridge (next to the gas station).

GREAT SPOT !!!
