Walmart's Milk Prices

Last night I was shopping at the Walmart in Gilford. I needed one-half gallon of skim milk. I was going to buy the milk when my 88 year old mother stopped me. She suggested that I wait until we stopped at E M Heath's Supermarket in Center Harbor while driving back to Moultonborough. I value her opinion because she has always been a very savvy shopper. The milk at Walmart was $ 2.12. Sure enough the Shurfine brand at Heath's was $ 1.89. I have always believed that the Walmart food prices are high. I have compared prices several times between Walmart Supercenter in Plymouth and Market Basket in Tilton. Market Basket always has the lower prices. I have often wondered about the Walmart food commercials on T.V. They always say that a person will save so much money over time shopping at Walmart vs other major grocery stores. I question what grocery stores they are comparing themselves to. JUST FOOD FOR THOUGHT! I don't have any affiliation to either store.

Perhaps the milk (food) would spoil as it was shipped from China? Wonder how much experience Walmart has buying from American distributors?

Look'n for a good way to work off the Wal-Mart breakfast of champions: milk and raisin bran.....try out an electric bicycle...for pedaling back up the hill with the milk for breakfast...

For $398, Wal-Mart sell's a mens or womens ezip electric bicycle w/ a removable & rechargable 18-v battery pack that recharges in about five hours. One charge is good to go for about 18-miles at 18-mph. Results vary depending on hilly or flat terrain. The bike can be pedaled, motored, or both pedaled & motored at the same time. One side of the rear wheel has a standard bicycle chain with seven forward gears, and the other side of the rear wheel has a very short chain constantly attached to a small motor behind the axle.

The bike's design is a citified mountain bike with the rider sitting upright, and replacing the original seat with a better fitting seat is not a bad idea.

Each bike comes to the Wal-Mart store in a cardboard box, and a lot of store assembly is required before it gets placed out onto the display so it's important to try out each bike individually as some store employee assemblers appear to do a better job than others.

Googling 'ezip walmart' will get a number of hits.

Believe there is a federal law, passed in 2002, where electric bicycles of less than 750-watts and less than 20-mph, are legally considered the same as regular pedaled bicycles with regard to state traffic laws. How about that?

And, now back to milk...

My wife has to do price checks every week at all the other grocery stores in her stores area for the dairy products only. Includes a Walmart, a Shaw's and a Hannaford. All chains do this by the way and if you get recognized you get tossed out.

The reason that type of milk was more money is that is not one of Walmart's "commodity" items, those are the items that are cheaper than other stores, but like Shaw's and Hannaford, they offset those lower priced items with higher priced "non-commodity" items. Whole milk gallons, eggs, stick margerine, white or wheat bread, standard American Cheese, etc are considered commodity items.

....just bought a half-gallon of blue label, Shurfine 1% milk, last night at the Campton Cupboard, located in beautifull downtown Campton NH 03223, and it is price-tagged $1.65 .......... my my!

Does anyone know what is to become of the old Jackson Star site? Would that be a good place for a Market Basket since so many seem to like that store? Tilton is a bit of a hike. Many year rounders in Meredith and Moultonborough etc. I do not shop there as it is not near to me and I do not really know it. I do have a good friend who goes to another town to get to a Market Basket though.

You could write the main office a letter suggesting the site be reviewed for a possible location.

Please use the search function to see one of the 10 previous threads suggesting Market Basket move in at Jackson Star.

Apparently Market Basket must not be listening as they have not taken this repeated advice.
