Thumbs down Meredith Marine???

I just saw a post from Meredith Marine that was a straightforward advertisement to solicit business. It now appears to be gone? I just want to say how much I disapproved of such a post. Not sure who posted it but common sense might indicate the owner. I know who I will avoid on 2012. Not impressed at all.

I do not see where a post for advertisement on this website weather legal or not is a reason to avoid a marina. If that marina provides poor service or mistreats its customers is one thing but making a pitch for customers on this site is no reason to avoid them or suggest others do so.
It is one thing to report it to the webmaster then let him determine what is right or wrong.
I’ve driven by Meredith Marina but have never once in all my years of boating been in there, so I have no affiliation with them and nothing good or bad to say about them.
Although they were a supporter of the speed limit so for that I would never visit them.

Lightbulb Good points. But

Belmont,

You make valid points.

I personally do not believe that MM did not understand what they were doing. Just my opinion but I am sure they have posted before and were well aware of the rules. I am sure they knew the post would not last long but they were willing to abuse the system and they got their ad out. For me that speaks directly to the owners character and I personally would avoid a business that tries to get one over on anyone because that is what I think they did.

I do not “buy” that it was an honest mistake.

For what is worth I know the owners of Meredith Marina personally (we've kept our boat there but we also live in Meredith). They are wonderful people and are the most ethical marina I've dealt with on the lake. They live year round in the community, raise their daughter here and are just nice people. Its a shame that a single mistake - which could have easily been made by a new employee - would cause their character to be called into question.

The post definitely pushed past the line Don has set, and because of that it is gone. My understanding is that a business can respond to a query about services with cpntact info etc, but that they cannot post as MM did. I chalk it up to an honest mistake and misunderstanding.

Default We all have opinions

We all have opinions. I will hold to my belief that is was not an honest mistake rather an effort to get one over and they did. For me it was offensive and speaks to character.

If others have positive personal experience with these folks then it is reasonable for that experience to be your guide. IMHO there are many places on the lake to buy, service etc, your boat. Their posting crossed a significant line and although many are pleading their case saying it was an honest mistake, I personally will let their actions speak for themselves.

I thought I had thin skin and do with respect to road rage, my bad.
But you appear to have let a very insignificant thing get to you.
You must have an underlying problem with this marina. Bad service in the past or what?

To me it must have been someone who obviously had little idea of how things work on websites such as this one. That said I have never actually done business with MM but have on occasion called with questions or looking for parts and have found them to be more helpful than most others I have had questions or requests for in the past. I would not hesitate to do business with them in the future based upon their willingness to dig in and try help someone in need.

Based upon the harsh response to a simple slip up I don't think it would be worth the risk of doing business with the accuser for fear of further reprisal if things didn't go 1000% perfect. JMHO.

I have used three marinas on the lake for boat storage, service, etc. and Meredith Marina is by far the best of the three.

I missed the post by the marina. Did they threaten to steal lollipops from children, or kick the family dog?

It must have been bad.....

Default No lollipopt theft

Worse than that, they appear to have made a mistake and posted a commercial posting in the Forum. God forbid someone should do that and offend some of us who have never made an error!

BTW if you look in the classified ad section you will see they have an ad posted 4 days ago. Could this be their penance?

Default marinas around the lake

I call around every spring to get the best deals. There is not much change in slip/storage fees since 2008. Almost all have slips available.

Quite a change from 5 years ago. Before the economic collapse, you had to get on a waiting list to get a slip. Because the demand exceed the supply, the marinas been jacking up the rent every year.

I was told it was a combination of things that contribute to the availability. Recession, gas prices and political climate in the area.

If you are protesting a post that was supposedly a solicitation for business (which I didn't see), then why not protest this post?

I have no problems with the restaurant post, but I agree with the others - it seems like you have some kind of axe to grind with Meredith Marina. (as Broadhopper said, I would not give them any business anyway because of their support of the speed limit)

There was a difference. The Meredith Marina post was worded and framed like an advertisement. The Lavinia's post was more of an announcement of a new restaurant and asked for your thoughts and input. As we know the thoughts and input could go either way. I think it's great that new restaurants provide us with information and give us the opportunity to respond and ask questions. If a new Marina opened up I wouldn't mind if they announced it here and asked for input from our members.

Businesses are welcome to participate on the forum and respond to other posts. It is possible to convey information and help promote a business without it being a blatant advertisement. I have no trouble separating pure advertisements from more subtle promotion.

I wish everyone would lighten up a bit about this. New members seldom read through the rules and I can understand why a business would think our popular forum is a good place for some free advertising. I don't think they should be penalized for not fully understanding the forum rules. Many people don't.

Default Our Apologies

Hi Folks -

Believe or not this was actually an honest slip-up. One of our new employees posted the ad in the forum hoping to draw some attention to our valet program. He was completely unaware that such postings are not allowed. We usually only post in the classified section and will continue to do so. We thank those of you who have spoken kindly of Meredith Marina and our staff and you all have our apologies for the mix-up.

Thank you for clearing the air. Although it was a violation of the rules, its not like it was harmful in any way. It was taken down by Don, who didnt seem bothered by it either. I am surprised that the original poster was so taken back by it...??? Maybe he has a previous axe to grind with you.

I haven't done business with Meredith Marina, not for any reason other than they are out of my way and don't they have a boat line I am interested in presently. I don't see the need to burn crosses in their parking lot over this.

I love that comic strip. Read it every day in the Nashua Telegraph.
But to keep this thread on track, I racked my boat at Meredith Marine in the past and they were most professional, courteous and accomodating. I just can't understand why such a small slip up that didn't harm anybody on this forum or elsewhere would cause such negativity on the part of the OP. If anybody has a beef with Meredith Marine over a post that almost nobody saw, it's our webmaster....and he doesn't have a beef. So....what's the problem?

They sold our last boat on consignment and it was simply a pleasure dealing with them. I've never bought a new boat from them, but wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone.
