Default New Alton pictures

I am of the believe that official Ice Out starts at the Rt 11 Bridge in Alton. Mee-n-Mac teased us with a couple of pictures last Sunday. I know DRH and Upthesaukee have had fun with us before (wait for April Fools from Dave to see). I NEED some new shots of where Ice Out starts, PLEASE!

Lilly Pond in Gilford is a good indicator of what is coming. I will try for some photo's when I am up this Sat. (RG reminded me of that.) UTS get some photo's or if you have to work either DRH or I can do it this weekend.

I myself love to see the photos of Alton Bay melting away.

I was at the Bay on Thursday and there was some melting there for sure! I have to go out today and run some errands, maybe I'll swing by the Bay and take some pics for y'all.

And one more from the Rt. 11 bridge...

Default summer coming

Thanks for the shots, I am removing my cover off the boat this weekend and will get the batteries charged. I think I have already been charged.

I also got a chance to go by the Bay yesterday. Ice is melting but still quite think and not porous at all. I feel we have a few weeks to go.

I notice a very interesting phenomenon around my dock though. There was still quite a bit of thick ice but there was some opening around the edge of the dock and there were a few holes in the ice. The wind was very strong. I noticed that the water was flowing back and forth with considerable strength. As it did the water would come pouring up and out of the holes and spread over the ice. Then as the flow reversed the water would run down the hole like a bathtub drain. It was pretty cool.

The public docks were resurfaced last year with a composite decking material (Trex?) that is light in color. That's what you're seeing in the photo.

OK, I gotcha. It is a "Trex" illusion. I just didn't see the slits between the boards.

QL and I went to Alton Bay this afternoon and I shot some photos of the melting ice. Here's what we saw:

Talking DRH Were You Following Me or Me You?

DRH when were you in Alton Bay yesterday? I was in the same places as you. See my photo posts.

It was so nice that I took a trip around the lake and posted photos from many places on the lake and included side trips to Crescent Lake, Squam Lake and Mirror Lake.

Chris E, I was not trying to make you too home sick - just show you how it looked today.

When I drove over the Alton bridge today around 11:00 there were two guys out there in their bass boat near the town beach fishing! I'd say they are a little anxious for ice-out!

There were guys in boats (2) by the opening near the Wolfeboro town docks as well. You could almost navigate from Downings up the east side of Alton bay as the circulators + warm weather have cleared out about a 30' wide strip from the shore to up past the Bayview Condos. The ice must still be fairly thick in the middle of the bay, as we saw a couple of snowmobiles (Sun) and a guy on a quad (Sat) running up/down the bay. I wouldn't have been out on it, except in a boat !

Mee-n-Mac: Can you see the perch sunning themselves on the new town beach in DRH's photo above?

Yesterday morning the ice hadn't reached the bandstand yet but it had by later in the afternoon. Today it is well past the bandstand. This photo taken shortly after the snow began this morning around 11:00.

Default Yes Trex type material

The docks were added onto some years ago, and had the synthetic material, while the walkway was concrete with wooden finger docks. That entire area was replaced with the trex type material to match the other part of the dock, making for a nice dock, without the raised joints present with the concrete/wood dock areas. Just another attempt to enhance the Alton Bay image , not to mention improve safety.
