Question Alton Fireworks on Old Home Day

I noticed the barge wasn't down the bay yet. Anyone know if Alton has cancelled the fireworks for this years Old Home Day ?

As far as I know they're still happening, it was listed in the Baysider. My son is sick though, so we won't be going

They went off w/o a hitch. No barge used like the 4'th, launched off the swim platform or there abouts.

Just got back. They were great. The group I was with loved the finale. There were some displays we'd never seen before that were spectacular.

Default Swim Platform : No Barge:Yes

There was actually a barge, and kind of a neat thing at that. It is a trailer that floats! We watched them launch it about 5 o'clock. They then loaded the fireworks on the barge, and used what looked like a boston whaler to take it over to the bandstand in the bay. It sat there until about 9 (the wind died down by then) and then moved it into position.

The barge looked small, and I feared it would be a short program like on the fourth of July, but it was a full twenty minutes.

I loved near the end in the finale, when there were multiple "bombs" that went off the barge in almost a 180 degree arc, looking almost like an expanded hand fan. You really had to see it to appreciate it. My daughter had her camera, and if she got a pic of it, I will post it.

Thanks Alton, nice display. BTW, the concert was the Echo Tones, and Kudos to them as well, as they continued to play right up to 9:20, the start of the fireworks.

Great video! Not like being there though Looks a lot better than the fireworks on the 4th.

Just curious, how were the crowds?

not much of a crowd, maybe half the crowd of the 4th. cleared out quick, 15 min after the show we drove right out and thru town with no problem. show not much better than 4th, slow andnothing fancy. wished I had see pittsfields show on hot air balloon day, heard them from my yard it had to have lasted 45 minutes!

Default Hmmmmmm

I thought the display was quite a bit better than the Fourth. It certainly was literally twice as long, right at the 20 minute mark, which is about normal for Alton's fireworks over the past 4 or 5 years anyway.

I guess that's why we have Chevy's and Fords!
