Default Dumb Question of the Day

The Boss and I were out today.. and drove by Opechee to check out the Dog Sled races. We ended up in a discussion as to whether Opechee was part of Lake Winnipesaukee, or a seperate "Lake"

This is Wekipedia's page on Opechee.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opechee_Bay

But Terra Maps shows Opechee clearly "attached" to Winni..

http://terraserver-usa.com/image.asp...=94&Y=1507&W=1

If Paugus Bay is part of Winni... why isn't Opechee Bay part of Winni...:confused

And before anyone says anything.. I know this is not as important as the speed limits or smoking bans....

Hi Steve,

I'll try to answer you. Paugus Bay enters Opechee via the dam at the end of the bay. Drive slightly past Lakeport Landing Marina and you'll see the dam.

Default Thanks Guys....

Ok.. so I lost the "discussion" with the boss... (not the first or last time).. so much for us guys sticking together!

They should have called it Opechee Lake or Lake Opechee Appears I'm up the "Winnipesaukee River" (Which IS on the other side of the damn dam.. ) without a paddle.

I think I need Mac to save me here! We all know that he always tells the truth... even if Mee dosen't like it..

Default The Boss...

Steve A .....There is a reason why you refer to her as the Boss....I learned a long, long time ago that it is ALWAYS best to let the Mrs. be correct (You're right , Dear!!) It is never right to be right..... Even if you are......

Default Map accuracy questioned

Steve,

Although I have never been down in that area, I have to question the accuracy of the map you are using. Some times river connections are there, and sometimes they are not.

If you look at the area of where Blackey's Cove gets near to Lake Kanasatka there is no river marking at all connecting L.W. with L.K.; And yet many moons ago my cousin and I navigated our way up to the Rt. 25 highway and portaged the 14 foot Sears boat Scott motor across, to cruise for a few hours in Lake Kanasatkaand then return.

Default oh their connected.... but

Looks like the dam is the end of Winni... and the beginning of the Winni River... which dumps out into Opechee Bay. (I still think they should have called it Lake Opechee.)

I always thought Opechee BAY was kind of strange. After all,Lake Paugus was changed to Paugus Bay when the dam was built and the channel dredged.

You think I'm gonna step into the middle of a "discussion" btw you and "the Boss" .... Ha ! Mebbe UTS can help you out. Me (not "Mee"), I'm following Shakespeare when he wrote in King Henry the Fourth, "Caution is preferable to rash bravery."

No sirree, no can help here. I am Lord and Master in my house. I say that with full candor and conviction, and her permission. I usually manage to get the last word in, in fact the last two. Next to last is "yes", although it can be "no", and the last one is either "dear", "darling", "sweetheart", "honey", or some other commanding word on my part.

Nope, if Mrs. A wants to call it South Weirs beach, I'm all for it.

(And then we can say how we really feel when we can all get together someplace, like forum fest, or some other place...oops I gotta go i think I hear her coming down the
