Hot Water Heater
How much should I expect to pay for a new hot water heater install? It would be a 40 Gal tank....Gas...That's with the plumber supplying it/picking it up for me at a supply house and carrying away my old one.

Whatever you are paying for a 40 gallon heater, the cost of using it (i.e. fuel) will be around 30% higher than using a propane tankless hot water heater.

About $800 max, depending on how much crawling there is to be done.

Try Minute Man Plumbing and Heating, ask for Phill. They are out of Meredith. Office# is 279-3323 or cell# is 387-1476. Great plumbers with good pricing.

Is that price for gas an if so does it include the new gas tank and all the gas piping?? No matter what you get they will be doing this to ya.

It did though only small modifications were needed (it was a replacement). In our case the heater needed to be short ... and therefore was harder to find. I'll guess the job could be done for less, given a less expensive heater. Not sure what dpg means by new install though. You could be right and it might be more if all the piping, venting, etc needs to be done from scratch.

My father in law, the plumber, said there is no such thing as a hot water heater, because if the water was already hot you wouldn't need to heat it!

DPG,
somewhere between 700 -- 1000 is probably what your are looking at, depending on what you get for a tank... better the tank the more it is going to cost... Might I suggest something though... Ask about tank less hot water heaters....The are a little bit more $ up front... however they heat water only when it is need and don't keep 40 gallons warm all the time....

I must agree on tankless,no expense when hot water is not being called for. Tank types are constantly reheating the water and costing you money. Before I installed mine I would even set my tank type to vacation mode when leaving for work which was a savings but not nearly as much as the tankless. Good luck. Oh and PS. Tankless prices have come down alot.

Tankless!
Here's another vote for tankless! I put mine in last year and couldn't be happier.

I asked about tankless and the person sorta steared me away from it. He told me their a lot more money and I wouldn't be a huge difference in savings. He said to take care of them correctly there's yearly maintenance that should be done and that costs some $$. Keep in mind I'm on a budget plan paying for gas so for it to change very much at all the gas saving needs to be pretty significant. From summer to winter heating season my bill changes around 60.00 so considering that I would not expect a water heater to make much difference. New Heaters installed and working fine, along with a couple other little fixes, 1,000. That was a decent name tank from a plumbers supply not H.D. Plumbers a close friend of my kids and wouldn't stear me wrong in my opinion.
