Ice Fishing Derby!
Well, the Derby weekend is finally here. Looks like excellent weather. Everyone is pumped. I just learned that the Rotary WILL be selling official Ice Fishing Derby hats (similar to baseball hats) for $15 at the headquarters trailer for anyone who is interested in buying one. Good luck to everyone!

Good luck with the Derby this weekend. I'm in MA and traveled 495/3 from the Marlborough area to my mom's in Billerica and back today and I can't count the number of trucks/cars hauling either snowmobiles or ice fishing gear in the back. Looks like a lot of folk were heading North to the Derby. Wish we could be there this weekend but the horse dentist is arriving tomorrow.

I came up this weekend to check out the whole area. I've never been here. I'm coming back at least a few times this summer. If anyone has some suggestions of where to go or what to check out, I'm all ears. I'm staying at Church Landing.
Thanks, John |

I am not going to be able to visit Winnipesaukee this weekend, but I can't imagine better conditions for the fishing derby. Have a great time and leave some fish for the spring and oh, by the way, Please post some pictures!!
PS: On an unrelated ice topic, I've got BC in a romp on Monday! Go Eagles. |

The Derby set up
The bob houses are being set up around the lake. I hope to snowmobile around if the wind dies down. A lot of the snow has blown off the lake. We watched it disappear as the wind howled all afternoon.
Here is a little page of pictures from this morning, Friday, and the Bob House Villages started to grow... Brrrrr. http://www.rattlesnakecam.com/07Derby/derby.htm

Ice Fishing Photos
IG, Thanks for posting the photos they are a real tease to get the ice fishermen and fisherwomen out on the lake. Looks very cold and windy. Nothing like a sausage and pepper sub out on Meredith Bay in sub freezing weather.

Airplane Rides
If you need to get there from Alton Bay, then check in at the airport, first.

Thanks
Thanks for the photos there great. Also I've been hooked on watching the Alton Bay cam. It's fun watching all the activity on the bay today with planes landing, ice fishing, and the snowmobiles zooming by. I have to ask this: how many of you out there would drive your car or truck out on the bay? I have mixed feeling about this and how cool it would be. But on the other hand you have to be a little crazy. So with that said who drives there 20,25,30k dollar car out there.

ALTON BAY CAM This cam can be very interesting at night. I'm watching the headlights from a group of snowmobilers cruising into the bay and up the boat ramp. Last edited by mcdude; 02-10-2007 at 05:41 PM. |

One more picture. The highway lane on the ice is to the left; the Airplane runway is that strip of cleared ice to the right of the Alton Bay gazebo. Traffic was heavy today on both sides.

Hi John, I am not a "native" either, but I make the journey up here at least a few times a year, every season, although I have yet to be here for the fishing derby. I usually stay at one of the Inns at Mill Falls in Meredith. It's a lot busier here in the summer but every season has its beauty and things to do. Enjoy! |

Awesome pictures! We had a blast during the derby. On saturday morning my friend caught what he thought was a 21" 3lb rainbow, uhhh woops that would be a 21" 3lb salmon. Back in the hole he went unharmed. Then my other friend caught a nice 19" 2.5 lb laker. I hooked a few nice sized fish, but the planets were not lined up in my favor, they all fell off the hook at the hole. I know I know, sure ya right , but seriously I caught a pickeral on saturday afternoon that would have been the biggest in the derby. It fell off at the hole after fighting it for 35-40 feet of water, I did however catch a wet arm from reaching down into the hole trying to grab him. Oh well, maybe next year. Awesome weather though, thankfully.
