I went down to gas up at West Alton Marina, and was asked if I saved my gas receipts. "Yes I do!", I replied.
She says, "Did you know you have to file quarterly now?" and gave me a copy of the new form. It is form RT122g and the form clearly states on the front of the form in the box starting off with "Original Invoices... and then "Per SAF-C310.01 (f)...shall be submitted quarterly by the last day of the first quarter following the last quarter included in the claim... Here's the link to the new form: http://www.state.nh.us/safety/admini...RT122G_001.pdf The revision date on the form is 07-05.

That certainly will result in increased tax revenue (retention) as most people have enough trouble doing it yearly (or even bi-annually)! Clearly that was their intention.

..involved in a rebate program, ever wonder why they charge ROAD tax on gas coming out of a pump on a dock stuck out in the lake??? its not like a motor (road) vehicle could readily fill from those pumps. Not only that, the market price on marina fuel even after the tax was removed would exceed the prices charged by the roadside Mobils, Irvings, etc.
doesn't make much sense to me... |

They do not clearly define "quarter". I'll assume annual calendar quarters (Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, Jul-Sep, Oct-Dec) ..."following the last quarter included in the claim"... So, if you submit a form that has June and July dates in the claim, you need to have it submitted by end of December. Anyone read this differently? |

Instead of charging road tax to gasoline being sold on water, too bad that tax could not go directly to funding marine patrol & lake related issues, studies etc. for the betterment of all who use the lakes.

Tom C. Totally agree, and thanks for stating the obvious solution. Can someone state the rationale....other than to retain the tax money from the majority of boat owners/renters that never file for the refund?

Because maybe the tax is paid before the gas reaches the delivery truck & therefore you don't know where that gas will be delivered, whether it be a marina or roadside station.

Just wanted everyone to know that I just spoke to the Dept of Safety Tolls Department and refunds will only be done on a quarterly basis. It is done on the calander year, ie: Jan to March; April to June etc. If it is not more than $10 the state keeps the money. You cannot carry over any refunds from one quarter to another. The new forms can be found at the link on the first notice. Guess they figure all those $9 will add up!!

Just wanted to add that you have to the last day of the quarter after the quarter you are filing for. Thats confusing & it is on the form as well. I confirmed that for example you have to the last day of September to file for the quarter April, May & June.

After having gassed up just before closing last night, I rushed home, changed clothes and the wife and I went to Wolfeboro for supper and then a really nice ride until after 8pm.
In my haste to post this info (I almost forgot to post it at all!!!! That's what a nice evening ride will do ![]() So Taz, thanks for the confirmation, and my apologies for not being totally clear. Of course, as we all know, sometimes it pays to get someone else to check. Just remember to fill that lawnmower gas can before the end of the quarter (will they buy that fifty gallon gas can thing????? ![]()
