At the Castle property there is a deep cut through soil and rock made by Shannon Brook. At one spot, where the brook has cut over 100 ft down through the terrain, an ice flow annually forms where water constantly seeps out of the soil and flows down a very steep bank to the brook below. This ice takes on interesting colors - the dark colors are probably the result of minerals leached from the soil and rotting plant debris; the blues, I guess, are the result of the prismatic effect of the ice as light passes through it.
