While passing 19-Mile Bay this morning I witnessed this scene, which I'd never seen before. Amongst the ice-fishermen were 5 or 6 young folks being hustled across the ice on stubby skis with the aid of parafoils, which, with today's wind, were moving them along at a good clip. A web site I consulted describes this as paraskiing, citing it as 'the new millennium gliding sport. Paraskiing uses wind power to aid the skier to glide across lakes and any other open areas.' It must take an alert skier to keep from tangling the lines of the other parafoils when operating in the close proximity that these fellows were.
