This bird is one of the most colorful birds of our area. Because of its brilliant scarlet red plumage, with shiny black wings and tail, it is sometimes called 'The Flame of Spring'. At this time of year it may be hard to recognize, as the red plumage is changing to an olive green. It has a robin-like song, sometimes described as like a robin with a sore throat as it has a more raspy quality. This shot was taken this spring at the Castle grounds.
