Seen yesterday on the summit of Mt Roberts. The word trillium suggests threeness - the petals, sepals and leaves of this plant come in threes. This is a smaller, more delicate plant than its more common cousin of this area, the purple trillium. It is also the most difficult trillium to transplant, requiring very special soils and temperature conditions. Note the hobblebush leaves in the upper-left corner - a very common understory plant.
