The Gorge runs for more than 1/3 of a mile, making a total drop in elevation (via a series of 6 waterfalls) of over 200 ft in that distance. The deepest and steepest section of the gorge starts at the base of Bridal Veil Falls, part of which is seen here completing its 40 ft drop from the gorge's next-highest level. The brook then travels about 150 yds more through the gorge before an even steeper drop of 50 ft takes it over Falls of Song to the final level of the gorge. In the late 1800's, when this natural phenomenon was a feature at Ossipee Park, Boston papers called this gorge the Little Yosemite of the East (media hyperbole isn't a new thing).
